2. Celebrating Christmas
When you first start looking at transferring to a religion, you never really think (or at least I didn't) on the way it effects how you celebrate Christmas.
Obviously many non-Christian families celebrate Christmas, but I never realised how it feels sometimes hearing carols etc. about a God you don't believe in. Things like my school carol concert I have avoided because I felt as though I was being disrespectful to my beliefs. This is not a view shared by all Wiccans, but I personally think that.
There are some ways to get around it however. Yule is a Wiccan festival celebrated on the Winter Solstice (21st December). I try and think about Christmas as Yule a few days late and a few more reindeer. As I was never a Christian I never took Christmas as a very religious holiday, which helps too.
As I am not part of a Coven, nor do I think there are any in my area, I cannot ask anyone how they celebrate Christmas, if they do, or even how they celebrate Yule. As much as I love Wicca it is hard to find all this information alone.
I am still looking for the right God or Goddess for me. I don't believe in a corporeal form, more of a deity who symbolises something I value or want to strive for.
If anyone has any questions for me or knows anything you think may be useful, please comment. I loved the positive responses I got on my last update and it feels a lot more like a community when I can speak to someone else.
