It wasn’t a very long kiss at all and that was attributed to Eric’s perfect timing. “What are you doing,” Eric screamed when he walked in on us. “What kind of people are you? First you tell her to date other people, and then you go and lead on Ariel and now you making out with my sister! How could you? And you,” he said turning on me, “you have a boyfriend. What kind of girl are you? I thought I taught you better than to be a little tramp and yet here you are cheating on your boyfriend with my best friend who is with another girl!”
I already had tears pouring down my face. My brother, my own flesh and blood called me a tramp and I couldn’t defend myself because I knew it must be true if he said it. Eric had never lied to me, why should he start now? I was a tramp and even Aiden hadn’t denied it. We were both too shocked to say anything. Eric turned around and walked right out of my room without looking back. He was furious, and I’d never seen him like that before. I began to sob and shake uncontrollably. Aiden tried to comfort me but it didn’t help. My big brother was the person that always looked out for me and he’d always been there, and for him to call me a tramp hurt beyond belief. I would’ve rather had been stabbed repeatedly with a knife than ever hear those words come from his mouth. “He didn’t mean it Bunny. You know he didn’t. He’s just shocked is all.” Aiden kept muttering things in my ear trying to get me to stop crying, but just like the night Joe beat me, I fell asleep with Aiden holding me and tears steadily going down my face.
I woke up in the morning in my bed alone, under the blankets and tucked in. I laid there for what seemed like an eternity, not willing to get up and face the day just yet. My phone started singing Aiden’s ringtone, “Country Must Be Country Wide”. It was my favorite song for my favorite person. I rolled over to grab the phone. I took and deep breath and answered. “Hello?”
“Hey Case. I just wanted to call and make sure you were okay.”
“I’m as good as I can be. Where are you?”
“I’m at my house. Eric kicked me out. Look Case, your brother was wrong about a lot last night, but he was right about one thing. We can’t do anything because of Traeh. He’s a friend of mine and I won’t hurt him like that. I won’t be that other guy.”
“Aiden,” I said laughing, “Traeh and I aren’t dating. We were just pretending because he knows I like you and wanted to help make you jealous.”
“You’re not dating Traeh,” he asked confused.
“No, I’m not.”
“It was all pretend?”
“Yeah, I mean when I saw you with Ariel I got a little upset and Traeh told me that’s what we should do.”
“Oh, well then I guess you should let him know it worked.”
“I guess I should,” I said laughing.
