Chapter 1: Invites

Steven slid the red and green crayon out of the crayon box in utter excitement. "Ohh, the gem are going to love this!" Steven giggles, shading away.

"Well what are you doing Steven?" A familiar monotonous voice came from behind Steven.
"G-Garnet? Oh. Well I was planning something for Christmas, but it's kind of a surprise..." Steven slightly blushes hovering closer to his project. "But since you're already here, I guess I could tell you..."

"My lips are locked." Garnet does the "zipping mouth" hand gesture to Steven. Steven smiles brightly at Garnet and sits aside to reveal six cards decorated with red and green to represent Christmas and a few pasted-on gold beads.

"I thought it would be a good idea to invite family friends to a new activity called 'Thanking Tree'... We sit around the Christmas tree and talk about someone or something that's important to us... Ya' know, as a family." Steven looks at the cards with a small smile.

"Well Steven-" Steven looks up at Garnet hoping for a positive answer. "-I think that is an AMAZING idea!" Garnet chuckles messing up Steven's hair. "You want to know a secret?"

"What?" Steven asks with wonder.

"I would say I am thankful for you."

"Aww, stawp it!" Steven giggled.

~ A Li'l Later ~

"Clod. Clod. Clod. Clod. Clod." Peridot mumbles under her breath as she attempts to get a high score in her favorite game, Flappy Pearl. "CLODS! NEH!" Peridot mumbles under her breath.

"Peridot calm down, it's just a game." Lapis says, not taking an eye off the magazine she was sucked into. She was just staring at the pictures, but in her defense, who actually reads the words?

"A game? A game? Technically, it is a "game", but to me, it's pure VICTORY!" Peridot flares her arms dramatically thinking some green backdrop will- I stand corrected.

"Yeah, you keep telling yourself that..." Lapis groans.

Suddenly Peridot's tablet sung it's little notification song. "Oh it's Steven! And its just a message, he didn't get "trapped" like last time... Lazuli." Peridot growled.

Lapis Lazuli does her usual giggle-snort "Yeah, those were some good times."

"Correction, they were not! You almost left my poor electronic into pieces!" Peridot whined.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Lapis says, nearing towards the screen. "Tell Steven I said hi."

"Oka- Wait... What? You are invited to the 'Thanking Tree' celebration at the beach. Make sure to make a tiny speech about something your thankful about. I would tell you in person, but I am on a pretty tight schedule. x3 And tell Lapis I said hi back."

Peridot pauses for a minute then slowly turns her head to Lapis. "Steven said 'hi back'"

"B-But I said 'hi' to him why would he say 'hi back' instead of 'hi'?" Lapis slightly pouted.

Peridot put her hand on Lapis' shoulder for comfort. "I don't know, Lapis I DON'T KNOWW!" A thought came to Peridot. "Oh! He said that because your gem is on your back!!! Of course."

"Oh. But, what if he didn't mean that- what if... He doesn't care about me anymore... Your back is behind you... And what's behind you- is part of the past... He doesn't care about me anymore." Lapis slowly got up. "I just need to calm down..." She flew up to the roof without another word.

Peridot frowned then looked back at the message on the screen. "-something your thankful about. Hmm..."

Lol don't even know what that was. Surprised I'm not drunk or some crap, anyway, yeah that happened.
