"you know i love you." the raven haired boy murmured, his voice fading away into the night along with the smoke from the cigarette he held in his left hand.

he and his boyfriend were laying on the rooftop of their apartment building, star gazing. and although it wasn't extremely comfortable -even with the various blankets and pillows and layers of clothes- it still felt like home.

phil would never tell, but he has loved dan since they were only kids; when the two of them ran around in the garden and raced each other to the park. he's been in love with his best friend for the past 7 years, but was only now saying it.

dan would never say, but he has loved phil since they were only kids; when the two of them played board games when it rained and danced to my chemical romance like two absolute losers in the park. he's been in love with his best friend for the past 7 years, but was only now saying it.

"as i love you." the chocolate haired boy replied, his face contorted in confusion, wondering how a cylindrical killing device could make one so happy.

"actually, i don't think i have asked yet, and this may sound really strange, but," dan paused and took a deep breath, his gaze moving from the stars above to the brightest one right beside him, "what do you fear?"

"the unknown." phil replied, with his voice distant and his hands quivering, the boy sat up from his -previously- laid down position.

dan himself never failed to show what he was afraid of. darkness and trees and moths. especially moths on trees in the dark. but phil; phil never showed fear, he wasn't scared of spiders or clowns. he was not afraid of the dark or trees or moths. in fact, nobody knew what he was afraid of.

"what do you mean, the unknown?"

"well, no one is really afraid of spiders and clowns or the dark and trees and moths." the ocean eyed boy chuckled while the cinnamon eyed boy blushed, though he listened closely, his ears filled with empty sounds and each other's heart beats. "we are only afraid of what comes after, the unpredictable sense of our fears' following actions. say, when you encounter a moth, you aren't afraid of the moth itself, you are afraid of what it is going to do next. and it's all because you don't know; you don't know if it is going to just stay put out fly around the room like a relentless beast. the future is unknown and that is why we fear it. it is a common fact that humans fear change, they fear any sort of difference from a usual routine, be it a chair out of place or moving to a different city. we are afraid of change because it is unknown."

"i have never thought about it like that," daniel answered, his eyes focused on his boyfriends' as he thought about what he had said. "but i guess you're right."

"you know, dan, there is one more thing i've always been scared of." the midnight haired boy continued, his hands shifting from his hair to the other boy's hips and he sat on the younger boy's lap, facing his face.

"and what would that be?" dan questioned, his eyes glinting with curiosity like that of a five year old.

suddenly, phil connected their lips softly and no words needed to be spoken, not yet anyway. the two boys kissed as the fireworks burst behind them, scattered pops of colour burning away into the night. their lips moved slowly and steadily against each other, their movements synchronised after so much time together.

"losing you." the older boy panted between kisses, his cheeks flushed a light rose as he stared at the boy beneath him, "i fear losing you."

"you'll never lose me phil, i'll never go away."

at this point, phil was lying down atop dan as he rolled his hips against the younger boy's body, pleasure-filled moans filling the empty air around them as the two unknowingly thought the same thing;

i don't fear anything when i'm with you.
