New York City, 2053
Where I live, you would've called 'The Future' back in 2016 or some random year where cars still used wheels. But me? I call it, the present. The Empire State Building? That's nothing compared to Ironstyon Towers. Oh, and you think driverless cars are cool? How about cars that can fly? No, not hovering a few inches off the ground, but flying in the sky. Flying is way safer than driving on the ground. Right now, I'm in Lorston Apartments, where I live, watching cars zoom past my window. I hear ringing from across the hall, it's the phone.
"I'll get it!" I yell.
"Kay' sweetie!" Mom says from the kitchen, where she has her tablet in front of her. I'm assuming she's reading a cookbook, since the scent coming from the kitchen smells delicious. I run to the phone, and look at the caller ID.
"It's Erica!" I squeal. Mom walks past me with a tray of lasagna in her hands.
"That's nice. By the way, dinner's almost ready!" She calls, as she walks into the dining room, and sets the tray down on the table.
I pick up, and walk to my room.
"Hey!" I say, "how's Mars?" Yes I said Mars.
"It's pretty great!" Erica says.
If you're wondering how people are on Mars, it's because we have technology that allows things to be broken down and teleported to a different location, and then reformed.
I had watched Erica leave for Mars in a thing called a Hyteletransporter, basically, a bus with no wheels. A big machine had scanned the Hyteletransporter and then, it had disappeared before my very eyes, and I could see something flash off into the distance. You have to wear spacesuits, for safety reasons. Now Erica is living on Mars, with about six hundred other people.
Erica started explaining excitedly how great Mars was. I could imagine what it looked like. Probably amazing. Erica had gotten to go move to Mars because her parents had won some sort of lottery type thing. I wouldn't really want to live there, I just think being broken down and then travelling at the speed of light to get there would be scary. I like living in New York City, with my parents. I like my school, and I especially like riding the super fast bus to get there. I'm fine living on Earth, even though Mars seems like a cool place to live.
"Ella, dinner!" Mom called.
"I have to go." I said to Erica. I could imagine her disappointed face, sitting in her new bedroom.
"Ok... bye." She said.
"Bye!" I called, then put the phone back, then walked to the dining room for dinner.
