I heard a howl and then another. I was used to the howling considering I've lived in the woods for sixteen years and I've never really been scared because of it. Though this time around was different, I was scared. I decided to shake off the scared feelings and continue reading my book- The Heart Of Gossamer. Until I heard a creak, I didn't know where the strange being was coming from, but I had a full intention of finding out. I set my book down and got up. As I started to walk through the house, I heard the creaking noise again. It was coming from the front of the house, near the front door.

I slowly and apprehensively walked to the front door, grabbed the door knob, and took a deep breath. I twisted the knob and cautiously opened the door, I was absolutely terrified at what I saw. Twenty wolves were surrounding my house looking completely lethal. I whipped my head from left to right trying to see If what I was really seeing was real. Tears were sliding down my face and my breathing was becoming more rapid by the minute as recognition started to fully seep in. I was going die, exactly as my parents did when I was thirteen years old. I started crying harder and began to move back into the house but was stopped when I heard a guttural growl behind me. I knew exactly what was behind me and I knew exactly what I was going to do. I stepped to the right and grabbed ahold of the railing, launching myself over the side of the house. I landed wobbly on my feet but didn't waste anytime, I started to run.

I started out fast but as time began to become limited, I began to slow down unintentionally. I pumped my legs as fast as they could go but I just couldn't take It anymore. I chanted over and over in my head, "You will not die! You will not die!" Though as I kept repeating this I realized I was and I was pleading uselessly. I glanced over my shoulder to see they were gaining on me, when I turned back around there was a wolf directly In front of me. I skidded to a quick stop and then reared to the right. I glanced behind me one final time and saw they were just sitting there watching me, all twenty of them. I started to wonder why they were just staring at me when I fell Into the half frozen lake. I couldn't swim, I couldn't even doggie-paddle. But one thing that I knew was for sure was that I wasn't getting out. I started flailing my arms around and started pumping my legs, but It was no use. The heavy water just continued to pull me down. I felt Icey all over and I started to think about all the fun and lonely times I've had here throughout my life. Before everything went black, the last thing I saw was a bluish haze and then my eyes, stinging from the water, slowly drifted shut for good.

Or so I thought.........
