My dress flies as he spins me around, a flow of turquoise fabric flowing around me. My hair falls in a blonde cascade of curled waves past my shoulders and my make up is done to perfection, glitter lightly coating my eyelids and cheeks. I feel like a princess, dancing with my prince charming under the umbrella of leaves above me. I look up to the star-spotted sky and see fairy lights weaving through the twigs and leaves, the crescent moon shining through the gaps in the tangle of branches, our own personal spotlight shining down on us. The symphony of music floods our little world, just the two of us. I want to feel like this forever.
Suddenly, a flash burns my eyes and I'm transported into darkness. I turn around and all I see is black. I call out but all I hear is my own voice echoing back at me. Tears begin to fall from my eyes. I spin around frantically, panic rising inside me, desperate to spot something, anything in the emptiness. Nothing. I look down and see my dress, once beautiful, shredded beyond repair. My legs give way as my strength fails me, sobs racking my body. A light flashes. I look up and see a park through a solid glass partition. Trees are visible with fairy lights hanging from the branches artistically. A handsome boy and stunningly beautiful girl dance underneath the lights with music playing softly. I wish I looked like her. She's definitely pretty. She is wearing a turquoise dress similar to mine. Her hair falls in blonde curls past her shoulders and her blue eyes twinkle with happiness. She looks so carefree as she throws her head back and laughs joyfully. I want to be like that. But Im trapped here.
I'm Madison-Bryony Delaney. And this is my story.
