The phone next to him buzzed quietly, lighting up just enough for William to see through his sealed eyelids.
I'm out front.
hurry, the cabby won't stay put for long.
-K
William groaned and pulled out his away bag - prepacked and ready to go at all times. He hadn't used it in over 6 months, not since their last murder case. William blinked a few times to chase away the memory. He glanced quickly into the mirror, sweeping his chocolate brown locks to the side.
Making his way out the door William spotted Kay in the passengers seat chatting away to an annoyed cabby. His entrance to the car went unnoticed, the steaming conversation continuing as if he hadn't come in.
"We will leave as soon as Will gets out here!" Kay shouted rather angrily at the cabby. he grumbled something in German and glanced at his back view mirror. Seeing William in the back seat the cabby let out a low "shhhh" noise and silently pulled out of his parking spot. Kay began to yell obscenities at the man, slipping from English to Spanish as she always did when she was angry. William watched silently, amused by Kay's quick temper.
"Stop the car." William knew without looking up that Kay was wearing that devious smile of hers. The cabby smiled right back at her.
"Sorry little lady, we haven't reached the station yet. You'll miss your train if you stop now." The temperature in the car seemed to raise by 10 degrees.
"It's New York, I'll find another train. and another cab." Kay reached for the door handle, fully intending to get out of the car whether it stopped or not.
"But I don't even know which train I'm supposed to be getting on." Kay froze. The atmosphere in the cab was intense. William bit his lip, a poor attempt at hiding his laughter. Kay whipped around to face William, murderous intent written across her face.
"You little-"
"Ah, ah, ah. Not in front of the cabby Miss. Lee." Kay's face turned a shade of red that can only be described as that of the blood of angry men. William met her eyes. Their intense stare was cut short but the Cabby's sudden laughter. Two pairs of incredulous eyes turned to glare at him.
"What's so funny?" William Punctuated each syllable. Kay's anger was contagious and William had picked it up. The cabby broke off his laughter to give Kay a long look.
"Her name is Kay Lee? like Kaylee, but two names?" The cabby burst into laughter again as Kay nodded.
"Look, my dad had a sense of humor. he saw a chance and took it." The cabby raised an eyebrow. "Also, my mom is literally psychotic so it's not like anyone was going stop him." The cabby nodded.
"Ahhh, makes sense now. no woman in her right mind would let a man name her child." Kay rolled her eyes. She'd heard that one a thousand times before.
The cab rolled up to the curb in front of Penn-Station. Kay hopped out and skipped through the crowd, silently pushing past the Salvation Army volunteers asking for donations. William shook his head at her disappearing form and handed the cab driver twenty dollars.
William lugged the two duffel bags out of the backseat and hurried after Kay. He followed the path she had carved in the crowd, apologizing to people as Kay shoved them out of her way. He handed the disgruntled Salvation Army volunteer five dollars and offered a quick smile before hurrying down the escalator.
