Jake and Jess are doing their work, like me and Christian should be doing, but instead we're talking.
"Any exciting plans for this weekend?" I ask him.
"Nah, I'm working at my dads though. It's not exciting, trust me." Christian mumbles, looking back down at his iPad, playing a game.
"Oh. Are...are you staying after school for a while?" I stumble, not knowing how to continue the conversation that he seems to want to stop.
"Okay guys, time to start packing up. Remember that the research task needs to be completed by Monday's lesson, so if you haven't already finished it in class, you will need to do it for homework." Mrs Cavnor says to the class, who are already packing up their books and chatting away.
"Um yea. I guess so. Why?" Christian asks, a bemused expression on his face.
"No reason. I was just...wondering. I don't wanna be lonely." I chuckle. The bell rings, and everyone makes a mad rush for the door. I have learnt my lesson previously not to do that. You'll just get sandwiched. I wait for most of the class to exit before making my way over to the door. My bestie, Rain, is getting mad at me for taking so long, but I don't mind. She does that a lot.I see Christian and Jake are nearly ready to leave, but as I look around, I see Jess has already left. Damn, I think to myself, I forgot to ask her if we got any homework in science today. I had missed third period for student monitor, as we are required to do as students. Christian is making his way to the door, where I am standing, holding it open. Rain is pacing outside, telling me to hurry and get my ass out of the classroom.
I mean, it's polite to hold the door open for people going through, right? Sometimes she just walks away, like this time, but I catch up to her.Jake and Christian have finally made it out of the class, muttering their thanks as they passed. I run after Rain, who has caught up with our other friends, Nicole and Brooklyn. We chat about random things as we make our way to the lockers, dodging people walking the other way and muttering excuse me's every now and again. I have to wait for my mum to pick me and my cousins up, as we all live fairly close together and we carpool nearly everyday. It's only a half hour wait, and normally I just do my homework or chat with Christian and Jake until they have to leave, which is about fifteen minutes before we do.
I sit down with my art book, attempting to sketch out a decent wolf-like image. I'm not really the best artist, so it takes me a while to make anything recognisable. Christian, Jake and a few of their friends kick a ball around the yard.
Christian walks up to me, so I have to shield my eyes from the sun to look up at him."Whatcha doing? Christian asks me as he walks across the yard.
"Attempting to make this look reasonable, and mostly failing." I reply.
"Oh, is this the animal sketch we started today? What did you pick?"
"I actually chose the wolf, although it looks more like a fox right now, dosent it?"
"Nah, Megs, it looks great! At least, it's better than mine." He laughs sheepishly.
"Eh... I don't know about that. I can't judge. I mean, look at mine. It doesn't even resemble a wolf!"
"Don't go thinking like that or it will turn out bad. At the moment it looks great."That shut me up.
"Any special plans for this weekend?" He asks.
"Awh, not really...my brother has a basketball game on Saturday, and on Sunday I think I'm having an afternoon tea party-thing with family. Kind of a belated bday party, since I was away on a snow camp for my birthday, you know?" I reply, thinking about how I could make the wolves face look more circular, but more sharp at the same time.
"Yea...I think you told me about that."
"Could've. I told lots of people." I shrug. "Any other plans you got on, apart from visiting ur dad's?"
"Nope," he murmurs, popping the p. He sounded a bit sad, almost as if he didn't want to go to his dad's. Come to think of it, he always avoided the question whenever I asked about his dad. "Hey, what's the time anyway? I've got to go now, I think."
"You're the one with a watch, idiot." I smile at him, watching him walk over to his school bag. I pack up my book and pencils and put them in my bag. "Wait up, I'll walk you out." I stand and jog over to where he's picking up his bag. We walk over to the gate, talking and laughing about the day's events.
