In a post-apocalyptic world, thirteen year old Alice Montgomery is surviving. Everywhere, the streets are infested with the cannibalistic living dead. Just 6 months after the disease spreads, darkness fills the streets and NO WHERE is safe. Somehow Alice survives after finding her way to the protected zone, but after her brother Will is taken by the inimicus, her and her clan of survivors must travel through the disease ridden streets of London to bring him back. But will they not just find what they are looking for?

6 MONTHS AFTER THE DISEASE SPREADS

Alice was sitting on her bed in the safe zone. She was thinking about her Mum and Dad, the people she missed most in the entire, disease stricken world. She didn't often have time to think about them, she mostly had to focus on keeping everybody safe from the inimicus. But today she had time; time to think about what had happened 6 months ago. When the disease first struck her Mum and Dad had not been affected, they had been lucky since many adults and children were catching the virus that would turn them into flesh eating monsters. Alice and her family had struggled to find food and protect themselves from the cannibals who were hidden in the streets. That was until they found Aiden's clan. Aiden was a man in his late thirties who was a skilful and brutal fighter and leader. They had found safety that they had not experienced before in Aiden's clan. But Alice never knew what was going to happen to her parents. Alice held back tears as she began to remember what had happened to her parents. How it was her fault.

Her parents had died after Alice had accidently forgot to lock the gate after returning back to the shopping center a where everyone from Aiden and another woman named Lauren's group lived after scavenging for food. The shopping centre had been overrun with hungry inimici that had come in through the unlocked gate, ready for their next meal of human flesh and blood. Alice could still remember her horror as she saw those rotten bodies creeping in, their bony and decomposing hands tearing away at the doors of the shopping center. At first everyone managed to hold on and cut down the zombies that were invading but after everyone that fell, another would take it's place. After realising there was no hope except for some to stay behind, some volunteered to stay behind and fight off the invading cannibals. Among them were Alice's parents, they felt that in order to ensure that some survived they had to sacrifice themselves.

Alice had been devastated, she had wished that she had never unlocked the gate, that she had never forgot to unlock that gate. If she had locked it, none of the clan would have been killed and her parents would not have had to die here. Her and her brother would not be orphaned. She remembered that she had cried for days after she had seen her parents dive into that whirlpool of bodies. If only, if only they were alive today. Maybe then she would not be so hard on herself and feel so constantly guilty.

"Alice?" Alice's friend Joe asks.

"What?"

"You have been in here for ages!!" Joe moaned at Alice. She couldn't help it. Sometimes Alice needed some time to think about the past. It was the only way she could think about her parents. She finally managed to think of a reply to Joe that would not insult him or his feelings..

"Have I?" She muttered, barely legible.

"Yes you've been in here for a LONG time"

"Only about half an hour though!!" Alice did not have a very good sense of time so she probably knew she was wrong despite what she had told Joe. She often lied about things. It saved her from having to tell the awful truth behind things, the truth that would often upset her dreadfully. These days she could not bear to talk about her Mum and Dad, not even to her own brother William (Though he preferred to be called Will, it was what everyone he knew called him).
