Imagine person A and B are best friends, but A is stuck in an abusive relationship with person C. (Maybe someone from your NOTP). B notices how differently A is acting and sees the scars and bruises appearing on them constantly, and wants to help. But A won't tell them what's happening, because C told them that if they let anyone know or tried to leave, they'd kill person B.

After months of mistreatment, A finally stands up to person C, who seriously hurts them in response. A endures it, figuring that if they take most of C's anger, then B will be safe. C gets caught in act and when A wakes up, they're safe in the hospital with B by their side, holding their hand. A immediately breaks down and tells B everything that happened, and apologizes for being so secretive. B just holds them gently and tells A how brave they are for going through it all.

A and B continue to be close friends and eventually, when A feels ready, they get together. A has a hard time adjusting, and tends to apologize a lot and get nervous around when it comes affection, but B takes things slowly, and makes sure to make A feel as loved and safe as they possibly can.

• Okay that's long and you guys probably already know what this is gonna be like

• Maria is A, Eliza is B

• So Maria and Eliza are best friends

• Maria starts dating James and it's good at first, but then he gets really abusive

• He makes her have sex with people and with him and basically pimps her out

• He beats her all the time

• So Eliza starts to notice that Maria is really tense and flinches when she tries to touch her

• And then there are the scars and bruises that Maria tries to cover with makeup and clothing

• But James threatened Eliza to Maria and so Maria is terrified to tell anybody

• So she just lies

• and then she stands up to James

• he basically rapes her savagely, beats her, stabs her, anything you can think of

• she almost dies, but a neighbor heard the commotion and called 911

• So Maria wakes up in the hospital and Eliza is there, holding her hand

• and Maria just breaks down and sobbing and tells Eliza everything

• and Eliza is heartbroken because she's in love with Maria and seeing her like this is terrible

• and Maria is apologizing for keeping it a secret and is blaming everything on herself

• Cinnamon roll Eliza just shakes her head and climbs into the hospital bed and holds Maria

• and reassures her that it's not her fault

• So after Maria is released she has to go to therapy (mental AND physical)

• and Eliza really helps her through recovery 

• During this process they both confess they love each other and start dating

• Maria gets super nervous when she does something like break a bowl

• and she can't even kiss Eliza without having a panic attack

• It makes Eliza sad, but she just wants Maria to feel comfortable and loved

• One night Maria spills some water and gets really nervous 

• and without thinking Eliza goes, "Maria!" in an annoyed tone and sort of loudly

• and Maria just screams and flings herself across the room and curls up in the corner crying

• and Eliza is like "oh shit" and she starts apologizing instantly

• It takes her a while to calm Maria down, but when she does she holds her for a long time

• Eventually Maria is recovered and they can even have sex

• There will always be moments where Maria is not comfortable, has flashbacks, etc.

• But Eliza is really good at knowing what to do

• and they're in love
