“Wh- what?!” I stutter. “That’s not even possible is it?” Willow looks weary. “Yes dear it is. In each life every soul is destined to be with another soul; a soulmate. However, sometimes fate makes a mistake, a hiccup, because fate and destiny often collide. Fate can change destiny, and fate is always changing. So let’s say you were destined to be with one soul but then as fate would have it that soul was to die before being born your destiny would change, assigning you to a different soul. It happens all the time, however if by some crazy twist of fate the first soul survives birth you now have two soulmates. I believe that’s what happened with you.”

“So I have two mates?? What am I suppose to do? I can’t be with both of them!”

“Well normally when this happens fate realizes its mistake and tries to make up for it by allowing you to choose. Whatever your choice you would be able to be together feeling no different than any other soulmates. And when you mate with one the ties will be broken with the other, allowing them to move on and be happy. Unfortunately I am afraid this isn’t a normal situation. One of the boys isn’t who they appear to be and the other is your true mate, the one you were destined to be with from the beginning. Soon you will be faced with a choice and it will either be the end or beginning of you.”

Her words hit me hard. My true mate? A choice? The end of me? What does it all mean!? “But how am I suppose to find out which one is my true mate!!?” I ask a little louder and more forceful than I intended. Calmly Willow says, “Spend time with them, go on dates, and get to know them. Then you will know. Just whatever you do, do not let them mark or mate you until you are certain which one is your true mate! It will be hard but you must control your urges.”

Me, not be able to control myself? That’s a silly thought. This is all too much. I don’t want my mate, I don’t need my mate. Willow looks exhausted. “Let’s go sweetie.” Elissa says softly. I nod and we say our goodbyes, but as I was getting up from the couch Willow suddenly grabs my wrist stopping me. “Before I forget, take this,” she says while handing me a small purple goddess carving. “Keep it under your pillow; it will help with the nightmares.” Shocked I just nod and follow grandma out the door. How did she know about that?

The ride home is silent; we arrive home around one and find that we have the house to ourselves. Elissa makes us some popcorn and puts in a movie. I can’t really pay attention to it though, not with everything else on my mind. Elissa notices my absentmindedness and turns off the TV. “Wanna talk about it sweetheart?” She asks kindly.  “Not really much to talk about.” I say looking down at my feet. “Just tell me what’s on your mind.” I frown. What is on my mind? James and Tristan, one of them is my mate. Alphas, they are both alphas. I am going to be a Luna. I’m not ready for that, I’m only eighteen, they’re young too. “They are so young, why are they alphas already?” She shifts on the couch to face me.

“They are young aren’t they? Tristan’s father, Michael Keating, found his mate later in life. He was fifty when he had Tristan. Being an alpha is a stressful job that’s why Alpha couples normally start having children when they are young. As you know normally an alpha retires in his fifties and by then his son, or sometimes daughter, is in his thirties. When Tristan was ten Michael put him in training so he could take over as soon as possible. So on his twentieth birthday last February Michael stepped down and Tristan took over as alpha. He takes his job seriously; it’s all his known since he was ten. And James, poor James he took over two years ago as well, when his mother died. He was only eighteen.”
