My eyes scrolled down the list for the last item I needed, I glanced up at my excited mother.

"It says that I need a cape, it has to be black but I don't......." my mum interrupted half way through my sentenced

"That one! Over there!!" She said jumping up and down as if she was a teenage girl seeing her favourite band for the first time.

My mum is weird she is always so strict with her nose up in the air all the time but under that hard shell she is a child at heart. I guess she was kind of like caramel chocolate hard on the outside but soft and gooey on the inside. The bell that sounded once we walked in snapped me out of my own little world. As I looked around it was exactly what I expected but not at the same time. It was black, white and red as was all the other shops we went to. All of them were the same, but this one was a bit different. This one had curtains not blinds, it had happy faces not sad, and it was warm like the eve before Christmas not cold like all the happiness had been sucked out of the room and the last thing that completed it was the smell of some type of freshly baked pie that made my taste buds tingle. It had a homely feel not like the other shops that were clearly made for business and efficiency. It is almost as if it was a home before a shop.

My mum summoned me over to an old lady with a kind face. She was slightly hunched and made no attempt to cover her grey hair. She made me stand with my hands by my side, tall and stiff. After she measured me she started talking to my mother I wasn't really paying attention because we'll they are ssssooo boring, well until I heard them mention the school I was going to.

"Is she coping okay, with the news and everything I mean Vampire Blood isn't something that is very easy to hear about." The old lady asked sounding genuinely concerned

"She..actually she hasn't really reacted at all." my mum replied casually

"I hope she fits in well and the other kids don't well you know...bully her....you know how she doesn't know much about the-" my mum cut her off angrily (she was back to her old self) by saying "When will the cape be ready?"

The old lady said "In a week."

With that my mum walked out and I followed. I looked at her confused. what had she been talking about?

"Mum...." I started my mum looked at me I opened my mouth once a again but couldn't find the right words because my mum looked like she knew what I was going to ask and she looked sad about it.

So I ended up saying "When are we gonna eat? I AM SSSTTTARVING."

She smiled half-heartily. Then she pointed to what seems like a restaurant.

"That was my favourite when I was your age." she said trying to sound enthusiastic, but it didn't really work.

We walked in it looked like it was a really fancy restaurant, but everyone was in normal clothes instead of fancy dresses so they all looked out of place with all of the decoration of bats and dead trees up on the walls. In this world it was always Halloween.

We sat down at a table and just when I was starting to reach for the menu my mum snatched it saying something like knowing all the good things. When the waiter came my mum actually got up and whispered in his ear and he just nodded knowingly and walked away. I looked at mum mother curiously but she just smiled.
