If he is being honest with himself, a practice he doesn't partake in too often, the moment he saw that heartbroken look on her eyes as she is telling Tamara that she won't skate his brain goes on overdrive trying to find ways to convince her to do it. If you ask him , he was just doing what was best for The Roller.
In all truth is Tamara telling him and Ámbar that they need to connect what makes him bolt because the only person Matteo Balsano wants to connect with is not the blonde at his side but a tiny brunette with a heart of gold. What he will tell you is that he was being fair, Luna and Simón had won the competition they were the ones that deserved to compete, he was just filling in for Simón because he had...whatever issue he had.
If he is telling the truth that little speech, all those thing he said to Luna so she would skate with him were spontaneous and came from, as cheesy as it sound, the bottom of his heart. He truly wants only what's best for her, he really wants her to be happy and he knows that this is her dream and he'll make anything so it can come true. What he tells Gastón is that yes. he was honest with her, but he still told her what she needed to hear, just because it was honest it doesn't mean it wasn't planned.
What actually happens is that she is beautiful and he is has never felt a greater connection with anyone in his life.He doesn't really have any explanation other that the adrenaline is running through his veins and she is just there looking at him with those big, bright eyes that could put all the stars in the sky to shame (she is the "moon" after all) and that when he leans in she tilts her head up a little and then his lips are on hers. What he tells everyone, even Luna, is that the choreography needed a better ending, that it needed to be memorable.
What he really feels is his chest swelling with a feeling he has never known before, he has kissed many girls, he is not bragging it just the truth, but he has never felt like he wants to hold on forever, like those lips are the answer to everything he has ever asked for, like he wants to melt into her, live in that moment forever. He has never kissed, or been kissed, so sweetly. He has never hold anyone so tenderly, he feels like despite all the expensive and luxurious things he has never had something so precious in his hands. He feels more alive with her small hand in the back on his neck and her soft lips on his that he has ever felt. When he thinks about it later ( because of course he does, he already knows he is doomed) he compares it to skating, to going so fast that think you are flying because for a moment there he really thought he could fly, he really thought he could do anything. What he tells his best friends after it that it was nothing,like that could ever be true.
Matteo Balsano has never been too honest with himself, has never been to open about his feelings, but there is something on those green eyes of her that makes him feel like he is seeing the world for the first time and that maybe it's time to start.
