School days

I woke up on a chilly morning by Jasper banging on the walls of the building. "Onyx we will be late! Hurry up!" I bolted up right and shuffled into worn out shoes and the school provided uniform. The material was thin and consisted of a button down black shirt and a skirt that came up to my thigh. "Come on Sage let's go!" The dog barked at me when I flew from the window and crashed into Jasper head on.
"It wouldn't hurt you to pay attention sometimes you know." Jasper said as he was rubbing the spot in his chest where my foot landed. I smiled and offered my hand to him. He stood quickly as the rest of our group came towards us. Lucas was out of breath when he stopped running. "We didn't miss the bus did we?" John turned to him and smacked him in the back of the head with his dark hands. "Would we be standing here stupid?" The group erupted in laughter and Sage barked excitedly as the bus shuttered down the road. I groaned. "I hate living so far from the school we have to ride in a bus held together with glue and wood boards." "I wonder where they even get parts for them it's not like there are anymore factories." James chirped and flipped her red hair around into a braid.
The door squealed open and we all got on with Sage bringing up the rear. The kids who got on at the first stop greeted me as I made my way to the back seat. I sat down and pulled Sage into my lap as the bus lurched forward over the uneven ground. The girl in front of me turned around in a blur of brown hair. "Jasper said you were looking for recruits for your war. I want to join." "Jasper has a big mouth doesn't he." I shot him a glare and flipped him off. I turned back to her. "Get off at my place after school if you are serious about it, what we do isn't for the weak of heart. Or body." She beamed down to me and flipped down into her raggid seat.
The ride was rough but we pulled up to the school and I was the first to walk down the walk way with Sage at my heals. The school was inside a large building that had hundreds of books from before the war. A library my grandma had said. I waited for my friends at the doors, straightening the uncomfortably short skirt. "Did Marie talk to you? She wants a position as planner I think." Jasper came up to me slowly. "I would need her to train the dogs. They are just as important to train as we are." I wrinkled my nose as I thought about the last training session I went to. I had gotten hit in the face hard enough to split the inside of my cheek and have to get our medic to stitch it up. I walked into the building to greet the teacher first, and to pick my spot where I would sit for the rest of the year. We sat on the floor every year, the only tables were for the teachers. The woman who was teaching this year was quiet and wouldn't call out to silence the class. I stood up to silence everyone by walking to the front and leaning back into the table at the front of the room under a small spruce. "I'll be teaching today. Obviously you need an example and I've been here for a few years." I smiled back at the teacher who only turned red. I stood in front of the class for almost two hours explaining politics to kids who didn't care, and the entire time the teacher was staring at me.
"What about the Unseen? Can we learn about them?" The hair on the back of my neck stood up. "What are your questions? I can only tell you what I know." I cleared the throat and leaned onto the tree. "Do you know why they do it?" A girl in the back asked. I touched the tree. "The sentinels say to cause chaos." "What about joining?" My eyes flashed around to the teacher who had asked the question. "It's an underground group. No one knows how to join and no one askes. It's illegal." I never broke eye contact with her as I was speaking. Everyone began whispering among themselves. "Well obviously someone knows how to if the group exists. Groups like this don't just appear out of the sky." I smiled. "I don't think you understand what I said. If you get caught associating with them the first offence is 6 months in the caves. The second is death." I caught my groups eyes and winked. "I think it's time to go now."
The class stood, and I turned to walk out after them. "Onyx a word." I stopped in my tracks and turned to face the teacher. "I have many words for you teacher. You obviously don't belong here as you know not to speak of The Unseen. Why are you here." Her face paled out before she spoke. "A man in the mountain area wants to send his reguards. He wants to send you support for your project. Twelve trained hounds and more weapons than you can carry. Of course the basic nessesities to carry out everything as well." I sat dumb struck. "People in the mountains have more money than the world combined. Why is someone taking interest in what we are doing down here. And how do you know?" I was tentative to ask. "It took a lot of research. We dug through countless kids to find you. Take my offer. We will be moving you into a new residential area." "Im fine where I'm at. But I will take what you have." Jasper poked his head through the door. "Onyx? Are you walking home today?" I nodded towards him. He screamed towards the rest of the group to start walking and left my vision. "Take my offer to move in
We have already moved your things for you and your companions." She stuck out her hand to shake. "I don't even know your name." My hand hesitated. "It's Violet." She took my hand and shook ot vigorously. "Round up your crew Onyx I'll see you at sundown here.
