All sixteen of us stood in a nurvous huddled group, silently waiting for Violet to take us away to a new place. I stood near the bottom of the group facing outwards. "You guys look like a pack of rabid wolves." Violet chirped from the open doorway to the library. "Let's get this going. Some of us have training to attend. I hope he invested in some equipment." "You will have your equipment just wait. It's only a short walk."
Violet was right about a short walk. The building she took us to was a secluded two story house divided but joined by a sky walk. Parts of the over hang had been replaced with sheet metal but the house was all in one piece. "I've been instructed to show you to your rooms and watch you train so the master knows how everything will work." "Why is he taking such an interest in what we are doing?" Violet turned and smiled. "He wants to be part of it but doesn't want to be harmed. He has money and power but is so old he can no longer fight." I stopped in my tracks. "This sounds weird. Give me proof or I snap your neck here." Her eyes flared with fear as we surrounded her. Her hands shoved papers into my hand. They were yellowed with age and the hand writing was messy. I scanned over them quickly landing on the name at the bottom. "This is my last name. Is this my family?" "It's your uncle. Now please follow me."
We all shuffled into the house immediately spreading our and touching the things that adorned the floor and walls. Animal furs littered the floor near a fire pit and the walls glistened with steel weapons. "He could afford this many furs?" Violet only smiled at James. She took us to a set of stairs that lead to the second floor and the bedrooms. To each person she pointed to rooms. James, Jasper, Kristal, John, Lucas, Audrey, Brandon, Emma, Roy, Keanu, Jay, Marie, Dakoda, Sol, and Jake all were directed to their rooms one at a time. "Your room is at the end of the hall per your uncles requests." She slid the door open slowly and held her and for me to enter. Sage tumbled over my feet into the room jumping around. The room was large, a small bed made of bear furs sat in one corner and a dresser in the other. A large spiral weapon rack sat directly in the middle of the room with each space filled with something different. "Exactly two hundred different blades and twenty bows with several arrow head types. And two rifles but that's not your style now is it?" I ran my hand over the rack before picking up a tri spiraled blade.
"I will leave you to change then." Violet backed out of the room and slid the door shut. I took a deep breath and walked to the dresser. This move was best for the revolution. I kept telling myself this as I changed into a tank top and loose black shorts that came down past my knees. Sage was already asleep on the furs so I slid the door open quietly, leaving it open and walking down to the end of the hall with everyone else. Stripes adorned everyone's back, some had three, some four, and only Sol had three black and one blue. Jaspers six were blue, and my seven were red. We made them to show out ranks. Jasper, Dakoda, and I had each a different amount of lines on out shoulder, our kills. Eight, and about to go way up. "I'll show you to the training room now." Violet called down the hall to us with obvious excitment. I took head of the group and we all excitedly raced over the sky way and into the adjacent buildng. Dogs barking was the only thing I could hear before we shoved down the steps into a huge gym area. Sand bags, weights, targets, wrestling areas, anything you could imagine was down there. We all separate slowly to find what we wanted to work with.
"Everything is custom to the old world machines." I put almost fivty pounds on a bar, laying down on the bench below it and lifting it above me. My body strained not use to working at this angle.
For the next four hours I worked my body to the point where I didn't want to stand. Sweat rolled down my back as I called in everyone to the center of the room. "Wrestling. Guys let's separate into groups and first one to go down has to sleep outside." The group snickered around me. I smiled "I failed to mention they would be out there naked. I'll go first. Lucas to the center." My tired body strained as I wrestled Lucas to the ground. My size was smaller but better formed so it was a very easy win after I got wrapped around his middle. He fought the next person, all the way down to Roy, a short boy with black hair and four lines. "Lucas you loose again you sleep outside remember that!" We all cheered on from the outside of the ropes, and I caught Violet staring at me a few times. The two boys crashed head on, effectively knocking both of them out. Everyone burst out laughing at the sight of them going down, like two puppets in a bad show. "You both get to sleep with the animals tonight!" I couldn't stop laughing to the point my stomach ached with laughter. Everyone began to walk back to their rooms to get changed and I picked up my shirt I had discarded long ago when I was lifting weight. Hands traced the lines on my back and sholder. "What do they mean?" I turned to face Violet. "The seven mean I lead this group, the color means I was forged in blood and fire. The lines here are how many people I have killed." I pointed to the lines adorning my skin on my shoulder. "And blue means?" "Blue means you have reached a stage in your life you are ready to change. Jasper has six. Each line marks his changes and his rank as close to top as he can get. Sol has four, black and blue. Black is you have joined, and where you start. Some have three and they are the ones who won't serve on the front line when it comes. They are medics and our planners and war dog trainers."
Her hand still traced my cooling back before I awkwardly shook her off and walking up the stairs. "Someone's in love!!" Dakoda screamed and made obnoxious kissing noises and Emma made a V with her fingers and stuck her tongue though it. "I didn't know you two wanted to do each other so much! Why didn't you just say so?" I turned their stupid joke around on them. Dakoda gagged and Emma laughed and ran away. Violet pushed past me with her head down, and I walked the rest of the way to my room to clean up and think.
