I never really understood the saying; "Time flies when you're having fun." Just because everything I did was in slow motion. There were times when I was having so much fun with my family, some friends.. But that's rarely, I guess. I finally understood that saying when I spent 8 almost 9 months out of U.S.A. Now that I am back here, I miss my temporary home so much. I lost track of time while I was in, what I like to call, my heaven, Bogota, Colombia.
I still remember my first day of school in Colombia like it was yesterday.
"Mom, i swear I'll be ok." I reassured my nervous mother.
"As long as someone talks to me, I won't cry" I joked, just to see her smile. I love my mother so much, she's the best thing that has ever happened to me. She makes me happy when I'm far from it, she makes me food when I'm hungry, she washes my clothes, she cuddles me when I'm sad.. And most of all she gives me pure love, and without it I don't know where I'd be. In conclusion, I love my mother more than I love myself.
"I just want to make sure, I mean.. It is a diffrent school-country is totally diffrent too.. Are you sure you don't want me to go with you or something?"
I giggled. "Mommy I'm 15, I'll be ok."
Mom smiled "Bueno, I love you mi hijita hermosa. Tell your sister that I love her too. Cuídense!"
I Smiled back. "Claro que si, mami. Te amo."
She blowed a kiss to both me and my sister, and off we were, waiting for the bus to take us to what could be my hell or heaven.
As I got off the bus, I realized I didn't know anyone. Shit. Everyone was standing at a park, or what I call a concrete soccer field, and they were all talking with their friends, catching up on what they did over the 3 month break.
I always hated being the new one , especially when I don't know a single person.
I walked over to the park, stood in the middle, and fiddled with my fingers. I'm just staring off into space when I feel a tap in my shoulder. I turned to see a pretty girl my height with long black hair and caramel skin.
"Hey, you in 9th?" She asked with a smile.
"I- yes" I stuttered. Wow, I stuttered, good going, Adriana.
"I'm in 9th grade too. My name's lilly. What's yours?"
She asked as she lead me to the group of kids."I'm Adriana." I said shyly. Oh, by the way, I'm shyer than a rock, if rocks get shy..
"So what school did you come from?"
"I came from another country, U.S.A. Actually."
I don't like bragging, so I said it casually. She smiled and led me to another girl. She had really pretty green eyes, short hair, braces, big curves and a pained look."Alyn! Look! She's from U.S.A. Too!"
The girl smiled lightly.
"So you're from U.S.A. Too huh? Cool."
She half smiled, but kept her pained look. I smiled
"Yes, where are you from?"
She was going to answer when someone else popped up. Some girl with, once again, green eyes, short hair, braces, and a small figure. The girl stared at me then stared at lilly.
"Who's this?" She said kinda rudely. My smile faltered.
"Wendy, this is Adriana. Adriana, this is Wendy."
I half smiled and awkwardly waved. She smiled.
"Where ya from?"
"I'm-"
"She's from U.S.A. Isin't that cool?"
Lilly said. I blushed and shyer away. I don't like all attention on me.
"That's super cool."
Said Wendy. I smiled and then she went away. When she did , we were called to come inside. One of the girls looked at me weirdly. A tall, skinny, black haired girl with pretty caramel skin."You're supposed to stand in line."
She said with an annoyed tone."Sorry, I didn't know."
I said. I turned around and still felt her judging stare. I heard a bunch of voices behind me, I realized I hadn't looked at the boys yet. Only one, he was really pretty. He had green eyes, dimples, slight freckles, braces and spiked up hair. To me, it was the best thing ever. Well, in the moment. I later found out his name was Alex. Then I noticed another boy. His name was David. He was weird and the class clown I guess you can say.
The teacher finally walked in, and immediately got to work. I wonder if it'll be worth he stay here.
To be honest, my first day was so much fun. It was better than the rest of my new days at any other school. In the end, I ended up getting real attatched, real quick. It's funny how the biggest changes in your life happen in such a little amount of time.
