"Beep, beep, beep" It was a hot sunny morning, and the alarm kept beeping annoyingly. I woke up, changed my clothes and ate my breakfast quickly and went to school as soon as possible. Because I was really thrilled to go to school. I am Luke, 15-year-old, this was the first day of school, I was really agitated, not because I could see my friends, nor I like school, it was because I could be the king and look down upon other students again. Be honest, I didn't even need to study hard to get the highest scores. When I arrived school,
"Hey, Luke, do you know that there is a new student in main office, and I have heard that he will be in our classroom."Leo said. He is my best friend.
"Actually, I don't care." I said to him.
We catched up for current status for a little in hallway and then the A block started as well.
"Hello everyone I am Ms. Amy, I am the new 9 grade teacher, today what we are going to do is to take a test, therefore I will know how good bad your are." Ms. Amy announced.
On the next day, when Mrs.Amy was giving back our test sheets and the absolutely unexpected thing happened. It was the most horrible day I have had before. Mrs.Amy told us that at yesterday's quiz, the new student came to the first place, and he got 95 on it. For me, it was impossible, because I only got 90 which is really difficult for anyone to get the point, not even mentioned that he actually got 5 points higher than me. I kept thinking this problem for the whole period and when we took the brake, I walked up to Leo and said.
"He must cheat."
"Maybe you were just not in the zone for the test, I think you were just probably forgot a couple of answers." Leo replied nicely.
"Fair enough, I think you are right." and I kept saying,
In the evening, my mother asked me how was everything in school and I told her about the test, and then I explained and told her not to worry confidently.
A day later, when I entered the classroom, the new student, Johnson, kept watching me as I walking towards my seat, I could tell that he tried to talk to me. And I just pretended not noticing, because I didn't want to befriend a cheater. The bell rang as I took my seat, and Mrs.Amy walked in,
"Hello everyone, unfortunately, I would like to announce that you are going to have another important test that matters to you. And it's the test that you have to take annually. It accounts for eighty-seven percent of your total grade, you better do it will."
Everyone in the class made a rash of complaints including me. Although I am willing to take another so I would get the chance to beat Johnson up, I still didn't expect it coming that soon. After the announcement, Amy let us go home early. I went home and made some spaghetti for my Mom and I. She was surprised that I made dinner for her, but actually I just making extra for myself and then she came home, so I just gave her the extra.
She told me everything happened about her day and how nice her colleagues were, I just pretended to listen, because I was thinking about the test. And then, she yelled my name and made me stop thinking. And she asked if I knew a new student, who is the son of her friend. And she kept saying,
"He is the number one at school and have a lot of rewards.
I quickly finished my dinner to avoid more conversations that might irritate me with my Mom and went back to my room. I lied on my bed and could not stop thinking what my Mom just told me about the boy.
" Yes, maybe he has the gift and is talented and be honest I was a kind of envy him but still, I am smarter than him, right?" I told this to myself.
My Mom knocked on my door and told me,
" If you come to the first place, I will buy you a new iPhone 8."
This is such a sweet temptation, cause I crave for a new iPhone for a long time. A iPhone will be like my lifesaver for my boring life. I started working and tried really hard on test. When every time Leo wanted to chat with me, I send him the mean sticker of "Leave me alone! "
And I even stay late to study everyday.
The big important day was coming, when the test was about to begin.
I took a glimp on Johnson and he actually wore a smile on his face and his expression was soft and peaceful. He acted like he was just going to take a note or something.
"How is the test? I think I am doing really great. I am sure I can beat you today."I said to the new student after the test was over.
"Okay..., but why does everyone look so nervous, everyone cares about the grades so much? scores mean nothing, what you need to do is try your best on everything on the process." Johnson said.
I bursted into laughters and I was laughing so hard that even made my stomach hurt. I guessed it was the biggest joke I heard this year.
One week later, Mrs. Amy stepped in the classroom with the annoying noises that her high heels made and said,
"The test results has came out."
And when I got my paper and the rank, my eyes were flaming of fire and my fist was up, because I was actually the second place. I tore up the paper and ran up to Mrs. Amy,
"The score is wrong, I did great on the test, I knew it. I should have been the first place. You make some mistakes on checking the result."
I came back to my house still in great shock, I was so shocked. And I didn't want talk to anyone. Suddenly, my phone rang, and it was Johnson.
"I did not cheat, Leo talked to me, he told me that you changed a lot during the test and after the test, he said you became cynical, and way too care about scores, you are jealous about what other people have, but you do not see what other people have paid to earn that achievement, you always think you are right, but you don't even try to change." And then I just end the phone without replying him a word.
Tomorrow when I went to school, everyone didn't talk to me,
"Hi Leo" I greeted,
he did not reply, I greeted again to make sure that he just not catch me. But he just walked pass me. In the first period, I asked something to another best friend I have, and he ignored me too. In lunch time, I walked toward to the table I usually seat,
"Go away, there is no seat for you." people yelled.
In the end, I ate beside a trash can. I started to think of what happened today, I lost my chance of getting a new iPhone, I lost my friends, now I needed to seat beside a trash can, Did I do anythings wrong? I thought of what new student said to me yesterday. Maybe I should work harder, maybe Johnson was right about me, it was not his fault, it was my fault that I didn't study hard enough. And I blamed him for cheating and I also being mean to my friends. At the last three periods, I read instead of playing computer games, when I was home I reviewed what teachers taught today, and didn't chat when I work on my homework. I started to talk to my friend politely, and listened to others when we have conversations, Now everyone wants to be friends with me.
"Can I be friend with you?" Johnson said.
The change made me easier for people to be with me, everyone said I have changed. Now I have realized that the enemy is never others, but only myself.
