I was walking home after school. It was a cool windy day, my long dark hair swept back and forth in the wind as I walked on. I hummed a catchy fast food restaurant tune as I turned the corner and went down my street. I felt the warm sun on my tan skin; it reminded me of playing outside with my brother last summer. I waved at a couple walking across the street.
I wish I could have a dog, but my mom's allergic to them, I thought, maybe they have hairless dogs. Oh well, maybe someday. I turned into my driveway and went to my doorstep. I sighed while taking out my keys and unlocking the door. Where's Matt? I thought. "I'm home," I yelled as I closed the door. I dropped my heavy blue backpack onto the floor. " Mom," I yelled again. My mom came in with a panicked look on her face and her phone was clenched tightly in her left hand. She brushed her dark hair out of her face, and tears started to fall down her cheeks. "Mom?" I said. "Megan, Matts missing...your father went to go pick him up after school today, but he didn't show up." My mom said worryingly. What! I thought. My mind flooded with questions while I blankly stared at my mom with wide eyes like a deer caught in headlights. My mom continued, " Your father went to the front desk and the principle to see if they have seen him but they haven't. We also called all of Matts friends, but no one saw him after school. We also called the police, so that should help a lot too. I was just heading over there to meet your father, do you want to come with?" my mom said. " Is that even a question! Of course, I want to go look for my brother, but what if he comes home while we are looking for him?" I replied. " Our neighbor is coming over just in case he comes while we are gone, now let's go!." My mom said impatiently. My mom grabbed her keys and her purse and headed for the car. I quickly sent a short text to all of my friends saying, if they have seen Matt tell me immediately. My phone buzzed a lot while I was sprinting to the car. Once I got into the car I texted my friends what happened, everyone either responded confused or worried. I buckled up as we drove out of the neighborhood. My mom's face told me that she was trying to keep everything together, but I could tell she wanted to let everything go and cry. Nothing like this has happened before, sure we have gotten lost before but we were always found quickly. " Don't worry mom, we'll find him. We always do when he gets lost." I replied reassuringly. " I know we will, sweetheart." My mom said. We stopped at an intersection as the light turned green for us, a dark-ish blue minivan ran a red light and almost hit the car turning. " Geez buddy, in a hurry much?" my mom said in a goofy voice trying to make me smile. I gave a weak smile to my mom. "Don't worry Matt, we'll find you," I whispered to myself.
