Heavy breathing echoed down the empty hallway. The girl it belonged to was looking all around. "Hello?" She called out, her voice shaking slightly. There was a long groan from a room on the opposite side of the hall. The girl gasped, running in that direction. "Hey! Are you okay?" She yelled, skidding to a stop at the end. She looked around, searching for an open door. Another groan could be heard, only at the other end of the hall, where the girl had previously been. She frowned, turning and looking in that direction.

As she did, the lights flickered a couple of times. "Hello...?" She called out, slightly more timid. Something was definitely wrong here. There were all sorts of rumors that followed this hotel. Rumors of paranormal activities that happened, mainly on the seventh floor. Flickering lights, strange sounds from empty rooms, and even objects that have gone missing. The girl knew about all of these things, but that didn't stop her curiosity. She never did believe in ghosts. In other words, she believed somebody else was responsible for whatever was happening in the so-called haunted hotel.

She shrieked as a loud bang sounded on the door next to her. Right as she took a step towards it, the door flew off its hinges in her direction. The girl threw herself at the floor, barely avoiding the door as it crashed against the wall. "Okay, Emily, you can do this," She mumbled to herself. "Flying doors and strange sounds. I'm sure that can all be explained." The words were hopeless. Emily knew that she was in way over her head here, but anything would comfort her at the moment. There was another bang on one of the doors up ahead, but it didn't escape it's hinges like the last one.

Emily walked forward, her breathing heavier with her panic. She jumped as there was another bang, followed by a flickering of the lights. "They just need to change the light bulbs," Emily murmured, her eyes darting around the hallway. She walked over to one of the rooms, reaching her hand out towards a door knob. She shivered as the touched the cool surface. It felt like it was twenty degrees colder than the rest of the area around her. She shook her head, figuring she was just imagining it. However, she began doubting herself when there was suddenly a loud scream coming from inside the room she was about to enter.

The girl rapidly let go of the door handle, taking a step back as the screaming died down. "There was no way I imagined that," She breathed out, another shiver running through her body. A cold breeze seemed to blow through the hallway, only increasing the fear in Emily.

"Emily..." A strange voice whispered. Emily's eyes widened, and she frantically looked around for the source. "Emily..." The voice called again. Before she could respond, it called out again. "Leave. Now." The voice was much more menacing and deep this time, much more threatening.

She took a step back, noticing the lights flicker again. When they did, she saw a pale figure in the dark. It almost seemed translucent, disappearing when the lights were on. Emily screamed, running towards the stairs. When she tried to open the door to them, it wouldn't budge. Locked. She struggled with it for a moment longer before running to the elevator and pressing the button frantically. "Work you stupid thing!" She shouted, nearly breaking the button.

The lights flickered again, and Emily glanced back to see the figure appear anytime it went dark. Another scream escaped her lips and she rushed forward, opening the closest door and rushing inside the room. It was musty and dark, and as cold as the winter night outside. Emily was done making up excuses for all of the strange things happening. There was, without a doubt, something paranormal happening in this hotel. Never before would she have thought that she'd believe in ghosts. At least, not until tonight that is.

She searched around, looking for a light switch, or even a flashlight. There was a bang on the door to her room. Go away, She thought, becoming more panicky. Her arms and legs were shaking like crazy. She was beginning to find it hard to get oxygen in her lungs, and she even began feeling dizzy from all of the anxiety taking over her. Every three seconds, another bang would occur. Emily could hear her heart pounding in her chest, almost certain that it was going too fast to be normal.

The banging suddenly stopped, causing the girl to warily look back at the door. Right as she did, it flew inside the room, knocking something over that was made of glass. Emily barely heard the shatter it caused, too focused on listening to her heartbeat as she forced herself to breath. The figure from the hallway was standing in the doorway. Her only escape was blocked. There wasn't anywhere to run. The figure didn't even look human. It just looked like a blurred figure that was a very pale blue.

It was almost as if there was an energy around it, making the figure look like it was glowing. "Please, let me leave!" Emily begged, not even sure of what she was staring at was real or not. If it understood her words at all, it gave no sign that it did. In the blink of an eye, the figure was standing directly in front of Emily. She screamed, trying to back away but she had already frozen in fear. She wasn't breathing anymore, refusing to blink in fear that the creature would kill her.

"Please..." That was the last word that she said before the creature reached forward, quite literally freezing her heart. The moment it made contact, everything in her body shut down. She fell to the ground, her eyes still open but now glassy and with no life in them. She was gone. Killed by the unknown creature, one that she would never be able to warn somebody about, not be able to prevent the next creature's victim from coming.

Two days later, a missing persons report was filed on the twenty year old Emily. A week later, she was reported dead. The cause was unclear, though some doctors claim it was of hypothermia. Not even two weeks after the demise of Emily, there was another case, an older couple. One frozen, the other passed away due to a heart attack. A month later, the hotel was shut down and demolished. Never again would a building be built on that plot of land, for fear of everything happening all over again.
