Homecoming

I looked at myself in the mirror and couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I looked.. beautiful.

My hair was flowing freely and curled at the ends, making me look like a princess. I was wearing a blue gown and a silver necklace that my mom gave to me earlier that night because she wore the necklace during her homecoming.

Where I usually wore sneakers I was now wearing silver one inch high heels. Light make up was applied on my face as well as red lipstick.
"You never know, your date might kiss you" Daisy giggled when she threw it at me.

I sighed in spite of myself, I wish that Dylan was my date instead of Greg.
I don't have anything against Greg...it's just that he's not... Dylan.

Before I could waste anymore time contemplating if going to the dance with Greg was a mistake, the doorbell rang.

"Jennifer your date is here!" Mark called from below. I snatched my purse from my bed and walked down the stairs slowly and steadily. One reason would be because I wanted a grand entrance just like Cinderella did, another reason why I was walking slowly was because I was not used to wearing heels. I hate them. But tonight is a special event so I have to make an exception.

When I got to the bottom of the stairs I looked up and saw him standing there.

I'm just going to say it, he looks good in a tuxedo. Really good... if he rolled up his sleeves I don't know what I would do.

"Dylan, what are you doing here?" I asked him, confused, but also kind of glad that I got to see his attire . "Um... Greg asked me to pick you up and bring you to the dance for him because something came up. You look ravishing by the way"

I ignored his compliment and walked out of the door. "Nothing? At least say something" Dylan pleads.

"Ok, how can I be sure that Greg asked you to pick me up?" I asked him. He ran a hand through his hair, I could practically see the gears running in his mind as he tried to think of what to say.

"I am his best friend, and he said that something came up so he might be coming late... let's go" Dylan said as quickly as he could. It was amusing how he thought that I would fall for it.

As I was about to say something, another car came and parked in the empty spot behind Dylan's car, which was right in front of my driveway.

The car door opened and a guy in a tux stepped out. He walked over to Dylan and I with a puzzled look on his face "Jennifer? Is that you? Wow, long time no see"

With a start I realized that this stranger was actually Greg, only taller and more... mature looking. "Hi Greg! Thanks for asking me to go to the dance with you, I was starting to think that I would have to go alone" I told him.

Dylan muttered something that sounded like "I would've taken you" but I couldn't be too sure.

"Hey Dylan" Greg greeted him finally acknowledging his presence. Dylan nodded curtly and went into his car without another word.

I jumped slightly when he slammed his car door and veered off. "So... shall we?" Greg said, opening the door to his car and gesturing for me to get inside.

I grinned up at him before going inside his car. He closed the door gently and walked to the other side.

When we were both buckled in our seat belts he started the engine and we were on our way to the dance.

"So... What have you been up to these past few years?" I asked him as an attempt to strike a conversation.

"I want to be a graphical artist someday so I my major is arts" He replied. "Really? Wow, that must be fun" I said, impressed. Greg nodded, grinning at my words.
