Rays of sunlight pierce through the air of the log house, dancing through the dust and gently land on Cassidy’s eyes. Cassidy furrows her brows as the Sun playfully disrupts her sleep. She tries to go back to sleep, but a growl from her stomach urges her to get up. Slowly and with a groan, Cassidy pushes herself up. It’s too early to get up for work yet, but she’s hungry. Cassidy drags her feet lazily as she proceeds to the toilet to wash up for the day.
The log house where Cassidy lives is tiny. It has only one room with a toilet on one side, a kitchen on the other, and Cassidy. Only Cassidy.
After washing up, Cassidy rummages through the cupboard in the kitchen only to realise that there is only a slice of bread left, with no butter to accompany. Well, it looks like it is going to be another plain old morning full of nothing to do, and with plain old bread for breakfast. With a sigh, she takes it in her mouth, grabs her homemade haversack, slams the door shut and is on her way to the village centre – Tikel Centre. School, shops, offices, everything that there is to happen in the tiny village happens at Tikel Centre.
She stops in her tracks as she looks up from checking the contents of her haversack. Almost, dropping her bread, she gasps at the pleasant surprise. The trees have leaves of red and orange, and layers and layers of golden-brown leaves cover the ground. Autumn is here! No more plain old morning for me, thought Cassidy. With a big grin, she runs through the woods and into the residential area of the middle classes.
“Alice! Turd! Old Man Paddington! Wake up, it is hunting season!” Cassidy barges into the lawn in front of a cottage, squealing in delight. The cottage is painted in navy blue and army green, because Old Man Paddington insisted that any other colours wouldn’t be manly enough. “Hunting season? Is it autumn already?” Old Man Paddington pops his head through the door, eyes glinting with excitement. Seeing the golden leaves, he quickly goes to retrieve his rifle.
Cassidy, it is weekend and I want to sleep. Alice’s thoughts droned.
Oh boy oh boy, sounds like fun. I’m coming, wait for me! Turd screams in delight in his mind.
“Alice, don’t be lazy! Turd is coming as well!” Cassidy tries to persuade Alice but her unwilling vibes filled the air. “How about I introduce you to that good-looking waiter from Rosie’s after the hunt?”
Within ten minutes, the three Paddingtons are at their front porch and ready to go.
