Just when I was about to exit the venue, I took one final glance at Brynn. She seemed really confused. I wanted to know if she was okay... If my dating was okay. But, I knew I didn't have to explain anything to her. She wouldn't mind.
"Is everything okay?" Rachel asked.
I met Rachel about a week ago while I was having lunch with my band. Benji was sort of seeing this girl, Camila, whom he'd brought along for lunch, who had brought Rachel along, so I was ended up being introduced to Rachel by Benji's date.
I've went out with Rachel a couple of times, whenever I was free during the day, but there's nothing serious going on between us. But Rachel was the flirtacious type... And very touchy. She was so fond of the idea that I was a frontman of a band - which turned me off a bit. I hadn't really done anything other than kissing her, which I was glad about. I didn't think that she and I would really get along but I was willing to try. You only live once!
"Yeah, everything's fine," I smiled. "Just hang on one moment, yeah?"
I quickly made my way back to Brynn and she was surprised to see me again.
"Did you forget anything?"
"No, but the lads are throwing a party at our place. You should come," I told her.
"A party?" Brynn asked, glancing over at Rachel, who was clearly annoyed that I was talking to Brynn.
"Yeah. You said you don't have any plans tonight. Do come over. Bring your friends," I told her, walking backwards towards the exit. "You know where I live," I winked before returning to Rachel.
"Who's that?" Rachel rolled her eyes.
"Oh, Brynn? She's a friend."
The lads were throwing a party at our place to celebrate our first gig with a new guitarist and tour manager, so Rachel and I were heading back to the apartment. Larry was still at the venue, making sure that all of our gears were properly kept. Benji, Bob and Bondy, our new guitarist were already there.
I was feeling pretty good about life as the evening went on. My golden-blond date made herself comfortable on my lap and leaned in for a kiss. Even though she was completely wasted, I had made sure that it was nothing more than just a kiss. Her hand went to my pants a couple of times, but I managed to politely push her hand away.
Maybe made uncomfortable by Rachel's exuberance, Larry eyed me from across the room. "What are you doing?" He mouthed at me.
I shrugged and excused myself from Rachel. She protested at first, but finally released herself away from me as I walked over to Larry and grabbed a couple more drinks. I looked over the door and wondered if Brynn was going to come. I was expecting her too. It just felt weird that she was not there.
"Waiting for someone?" Larry raised an eyebrow.
"Told Brynn to come."
"Have you lost your mind? You have a date and at the same time you asked another girl to come over," Larry shook his head. "And what about not introducing your sex friends to your friends? Breaking the terms already?"
"No," I sipped on my beer and paused for a bit knowing that Larry was right. "Brynn's more than just a sex friend. She's... A friend. I like having her around."
"Aha! Are you in love with her?" Larry chuckled.
"No! Of course not," I laughed.
"And what about Rachel?"
"She's just a date. A very touchy one apparently," I told him.
"Mate, I am glad I am your best mate. Just when I thought I messed up, I can always look at you and it puts my life back to perspective," Larry laughed.
"Glad to help you, mate," I chuckled.
"Here she comes," Larry laughed through his nose, pointing towards the door.
There Brynn was, standing at the door frame, her eyes scanning the room with a frown on her face. I laughed to myself thinking that she must have already judging every single person in the room. Her frown faded when her eyes met mine, as her red lips curled into a sweet smile. I immediately waved at her.
"Thought you're not gonna be here," I told her.
"I had nothing better to do. Thought I'd check out how British boys throw a party," she giggled.
"You alone?"
"Yeah, Lexy left with her date."
"That's cool. Do you want anything to drink?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Let me help you with that," I took her coat and kept in my room.
I led Brynn to the kitchen after introducing her to Larry and turned around to see if Rachel was doing okay. I was relieved to see that she was talking to Bondy, still drunk, but she seemed fine.
"So, what do you want? We have the good old beer. Whiskey. Tequila. Vodka...."
"A beer would be fine," Brynn smiled. "What's the party for?"
"Oh, we have a new band member," I nonchalantly told her, handing her a bottle of beer.
"Really? What happened to the old member?" She asked.
"He didn't want to play with the band anymore," I shrugged.
"I didn't know that," she said, sipping on her beer.
"Well, you never ask," I chuckled.
"Where's your date?"
"You mean Rachel? She's... Somewhere."
"Oh..."
Brynn seemed uncomfortable at the mention of Rachel, which made a smile broke out on my face.
"Everything okay?" I grinned.
"Yeah," she shook her head, sipping on her beer. "I love this song," she said, pointing her finger slightly in the air. Lemonworld by The National was playing in the background as Brynn and I both leaned against the kitchen counter.
"Me too," I chuckled. I glanced at Brynn who was standing next to me. Her skin was flushed, and the kitchen lights were definitely highlighting her beautiful face. I studied her for a moment before holding my hand out to her. "Do you want to dance?"
"Uhm, yeah, sure," she giggled as her eyes studied my palm like she was contemplating if she really should. She eventually took my hand and placed her arms around my neck. I held her at her hips as we stood closely together, our bodies swaying to the music. She rested her head onto my chest and I could feel the pace of my heart was changing rapidly. I bet Brynn could listen to the sound of my heart beating. She was affecting me. Holding her so closely like that felt... Nice. And right.
We slow danced to the song like there was nobody else around. Like we were in our own little world.
Brynn then looked up to meet my eyes. My eyes quickly locked into hers. In that moment, I realized that Brynn had the most amazing pair of eyes. They were brown, so mesmerizing as they glistened against the light. The way she was staring at me made my heart skipped a beat. I suddenly had a strong desire of having her. I just could not resist of wanting her closer to me so I lowered my head and Brynn didn't resist. Maybe, she wanted it too. And then our lips met.
We kissed the way we never kissed before - it was so warm, soft and tender. I nearly forgot that we were in an apartment filled with people mingling about, if not for the sound of someone clearing their throat behind me.
Brynn and I quickly broke apart from each other. Brynn quickly stepped aside, drawing a bit of space between us.
"Uhm, sorry mate," Larry chuckled. "But, Rachel's looking for you."
