It was warmer than normal.
The sun shined in through the one circular window in the attic. Gray was sprawled out on the small mattress in which she called her bed.
The sun hitting her face, her freckles show.
She sleepily rolled over into the large comforter beside her. Her only source of warmth in the attic was that comforter.
Normally at this time of day the eleven year old girl was being yelled at by her father to get up out of bed. But it was silence, a silence that bothered her.
It didn't bother her too much because she could smell the fresh pancakes that her mother always cooks. Which means her father had most likely gone to work early and left her mother to get her to school.

Gray sat up, her blonde hair was quite a mess. She stood up and looked down at her bare feet on the cold wooden floor. She rubbed her eyes gently and walked to the small square door on the floor leading down from the attic. As always she opened it and climbed down a long creaky wooden ladder. She skipped into the kitchen and sat at the table where her plate was set before her. She smiled softly at the empty plate.
"Morning momma!" She said, her voice soft and sweet.
Her mother was standing over the stove, her light brown hair sticking to her sweaty forehead. "Morning pumpkin." She says, she turned to Gray, her icy blue eyes sparked slightly. She walked over with the pan and put a pancake on Gray's plate and with a warm smile she kissed her daughters head softly.
Gray smiled and began to eat, with a mouth full of food she began to speak "thank you mom" she said sounding quite funny with barely enough room to open her mouth.
Her mother rolled her eyes and shook her head "do not speak with your mouth full young lady." She said softly, then walked back into the kitchen to grab Gray's lunch bag
Gray laughed at her mothers remark and cleared her plate. She stood up and put it in the sink. "Go hurry and get dressed and hair brushed please. We don't want your father to be upset if you're late." Her mother called behind her as she skipped back up to the attic.

Gray quickly put her plaid dress on, the colors were plain, light and dark browns with some red. She then grabbed her brush and began brushing out all of the knots in her hair.
She looked down at her feet and wiggled her toes "no shoes for me!" She laughed
Her mother poked her head up into the attic from the small door in the floor "yes shoes for you, hurry up dear" she said as she climbed down again.
Gray rolled her eyes and grabbed her black ballet flats and slipped them on climbing down to meet her mother in the doorway of the house. She took the paper lunch bag from her mothers hand. Her mother kissed her forehead "behave yourself" she said as Gray then skipped off to her school.
