Maddy's P.O.V.
I exited the London School for Music at the end of my class, followed closely by my best friends Eleanor and Beth.
“I guess I’ll see you guys soon. I’m not quite sure how long Uncle Si will have me out on tour with him. I’ll miss you!” I say, wrapping Eleanor and Beth into a hug as we part ways, them to the dorm and me off to find the car Uncle Si has sent for me. Uncle Si—or as most of you know him, Simon Cowell—wasn’t actually my uncle. He was a close family friend, who had gotten me, a small-town girl from the American South, a spot in London School for Music’s Young Artist Programme. Because my parents didn’t really support my music, Uncle Si had taken me under his wing. Even though I was too young for the Young Artist Programme at 15, he insisted that I train there to develop what he called my “natural talent”. Occasionally, he took me on tours with artists from his label, but most of the time I lived alone in his flat with my puppy Halston. Today was one of those special days. I would be meeting him at the O2 Arena mid-way through a tour he was on with a band called One Direction. I hadn’t heard much about them since I was American, but I did know a bit of “What Makes You Beautiful”, which they played a little on the radio.
I put my guitar case down to search through my tote bag for my phone to call Uncle Si.
“Yes?”
“Uncle Si?”
“Oh, Maddy. How are you?”
“Just fine, Uncle Si, but what car should I be expecting?” I asked, tugging the sleeves of my gray hoodie down to block the blustery wind from my freezing hands.
“The black Suburban, love. The drive’s fairly short.”
“Okay, thanks Uncle Si. See you soon!” I clicked my phone off, gathered my things, and headed away from the brick, ivy-covered complex of buildings of the London School for Music toward the street.
