Chapter 1
Sleep. Without it, we would be lost as a human race. It keeps reality away and launches us into our own fantasyland of sweet things and hot boys. Why would i ever want to wake up to my dull, painfully boring life when i can stay inside my thrilling dream world? The clatter of pots and pans from downstairs startles me awake, forcing me to bid farewell to the lovely dream i was having. The sun glares through my shades right into my half-opened eyes, seeming to through into my soul. The large fluffy comforter is so warm and comfy, I feel like I'm wrapped in angel wings. The moment is perfect, but like all good things it must come to an end.
Out of nowhere, I am being shaken harshly.
"Desiree! Wake up! You're late, again!" A voice calls. After recovering from the surprise, I roll over and stick my middle finger up at the intruder. I hear a laugh and groan. It's too early in the morning for happiness.
"I'm serious, Desi. Mom will whoop your ass if you're late again,"
I groan. Unfortunately, those words are true. Slowly, I roll over to face my ever cheerful younger brother, Drew. He smiles, his deep dimples standing out against his pale skin. I scowl at him and throw back the covers, jumping out of my comfort zone.
"Morning, sis!" He chirps, earning a glare from me.
"Fuck off,"
With a laugh, he heads out of my room and towards the kitchen. Still half-asleep, I begin getting dressed and applying makeup and all that necessary stuff. Since it is a Friday, I even went the extra mile and curled my hair, which took a tremendous amount of effort. After I'm dressed in a comfy but cute ensemble of jeans and a plaid shirt, I head to the kitchen for breakfast and the torturous family converstaions that start my day off right!
As soon as I step into the kitchen, a powerful aroma overcomes me. I would know that smell anywhere. Bacon. Something my mom onky makes on special occasions. Drew and I exchange confused glances before turning our attention towards our mother, who is putting the food onto our plates. This is definitely quite the change from the usual fruit and yogurt.
"Oh my god, bacon ," I say with my mouth full. My mother, who's sitting across from me, gives her usual disgusted look while my brother just snorts.
"I'm glad to see you're enjoying the bacon I made, Desiree Grace," my mother says, using my full name as usual. Her bleached blonde hair is tied up on the top of her head in an uncomfortable looking...thing. Her makeup looks as if its been applied professionally and her nails are long and perfect and red. Her holy housewife look would not be complete without her everyday pencil skirt, frilly blouse and too- tight blazer that her boobs practically hang out of. Don't forget the five inch stilettos!
I mumble a yes and continue scarfing down my bacon. Mom presses her full cherry lips together in a disdainful way. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but ever since my dad died, she's become a workaholic.
We each handled the stress of losing him in a different way. Mom began to work more and she started to get her priorities mixed up, I guess. Work first, then money, then her kids. She seems to care about nothing else besides those things, but we've gotten used to it. The fact that shes always at the firm has been a huge benefit for throwing major house parties. But, I would give up any killer party to spend a day of bonding with the damn woman. Sometimes if i look closely behind her blue eyes, I still see the fun loving young girl she used to be. Sadly, I see that girl less and less as each day goes by.
My approach to the situation is to cop an attitude with her. Make her see just what her absence has done to us. But, unfortunately, my sauciness is balanced out by Drew's sweetheart attitude. He cant help but be a total angel to her and help her out with anything.
Despite how much it messed up my little bitch plan, that's the thing I love about my brother. He always puts others before himself. In the past, he's sacrificed so much for people so they get what they want. It doesn't even bother him when they turn on him and stab him in the back- he's just happy with the fact he helped someone.
The one thing I wish I could change about Drew comes with him being Captain of every single JV sport. It's all the girls he brings home,um, for lack of better word..fucks. He's dated so many girls, i lost count a while ago. Some of them were total sweethearts and others were total bitches, but either way they only stayed for about a month or so. Again, I'm sure he only does it for the pure joy of making the girl happy. Damn him and his big heart.•••••••••••••••••••••••~~
A/N: WOW! My first book on Wattpad yay! So this chapter was ridiculously short but I just wanted to get this up. It's just a little intro to Desiree's life & family. Thanks a bunch for reading and please comment your thoughts! Even the negative ones help a ton!
