"No. Next" The same response came from Hannah for every single dress I tried on. They were either too colourful, or too plain, or too frilly, or too tight. Nothing was perfect. And although I didn't want Hannah and Simone to know, I really wanted the formal to be perfect. I have been dreaming about it my whole life. Too bad my dreams involve a date.... I was still working on that.
Simone spun my round then made a gaging noise. She is really into fashion and isn't afraid to tell me when I looked repulsive in a dress. This was no exception.
"April I'm afraid that if you wear that out of the house I will be forced to bury you. With the dress. It's hideous." A store worker walked past us overhearing her and gave us both a look that could kill. "What?" Simone called after her. "It's true! Hey April! Maybe we should go to a different store! One with nice clothing unlike this one!" She yelled loud enough for the whole store to hear. Simone had a tendency to overreact.
While we were walking to the next store after I had to apologise to the worker for Simone's poor behaviour, a black range rover I would recognise anywhere slowed down beside us. I subtly lean over to Hannah and whisper "That's Harry's car"
"Which Harry?" was her response. Really, Hannah? Which Harry do you think I'm talking about?
"Harry Styles, you idiot" I rolled my eyes at her. It's not like I talk about him 24/7 or anything...
"Ohhhh of course. You're boyfriend" I shot her a glare. She laughed and threw her hands up in surrender.
"I don't mean to be a buzzkill but Harry Styles is walking up to us. What do we do?" Simone interjected.
I didn't notice Harry even get out of the car let alone approach us. Good thing I was an expert.
"Just act natural, keep walking, don't make eye contact and for god's sake, do not talk to him." I brief them quickly on how to go unnoticed.
"Hey April! How are you doing baby?" Harry walks up from behind and puts his arm around my shoulder. I can instantly feel his huge muscles beneath his skin. I want to make a sassy remark but all that comes out is a weak "...hi"
"Do you have a date to the formal because I'm free and I'm pretty sure you are too. I'm all about making dreams come true and I'm thinking this would be a dream come true for you. So what do you say? You in?" As much as I couldn't breathe from his words, I knew he was just fooling around and didn't want to take me for his own pleasure, he wanted me for his ongoing joke he had with his friends. I bet they actually had money on this. Although everything in my mind was telling me to turn him down I just couldn't. I had waited 2 years to be his date and this was my chance. My chance to make the poor girls sitting down without a date to look up at me full of jealousy plotting ways to kill me while I sleep. Maybe he was making me a little crazy. I still didn't know what to say to him. I racked my brains for something to say to him. It should be simple. Yes, or no.
"Um... I don't think... maybe... but... can I just talk to you guys for a second" Was all I could muster. As I dragged Simone and Hannah out of Harry's hearing range, I asked them what they thought.
"Go for it! You've been waiting forever for this babe and we can buy you a killer dress to go with your killer date." Hannah couldn't stop smiling as she gave me the pep talk and I had a feeling I couldn't either.
"I feel like you shouldn't. He's just trying to mess with you." Simone did have a point but I guess I was just too excited to acknowledge her logic.
I turned around to Harry and nodded slowly with an unsure look on my face. I was worried he would break my heart. Even though we weren't even together. I was confusing myself.
