I slowly open my eyes to an unfamiliar surrounding. I'm so confused. My head is pounding and the lights from the ceiling are making things 10x worse. After finally gathering myself I realize I'm in a hospital. I hate hospitals.

"Oh my goodness!! You're awake!!" Says a short fair skinned lady with a bob cut. I'm assuming she's a nurse.

"Doctor!!" She yells.

"Are you new here?" I ask. I didn't even recognize my own voice. Was she even able to understand me? My voice sounded like a long raspy groan.

"Can you tell?"

Okay, good. One IS able to understand me.

"A little." I chuckle then groan.

"Be careful." She approaches me. "The Doc should be here soon."

As if on cue a short Latino man walks in with a clipboard. He's about 5'3" with dark hair.

The nurse leaves.

"Hello, I'm very glad to see you're awake. I'm Doctor Padilla. I hope you're not in too much pain." He says not looking at me, instead hes flipping through files.

The nurse returns with a cup of water and hands it to me I smile in gratitude.

"How's your memory?" The Doc asks.

"I wouldn't know. My head is pounding." I reply then sip my water. Swallowing hurts.

"Well considering you suffered from a major concussion, I would say that sounds right."He says scribbling on a pad.

"Well, Mrs. Malia-"

"Uh, Ms." I interrupt.

"Oh sorry, I saw the ring."

I look down at the ring Abel gave me. Oh God! Abel!

"I have to go. I can't be here right now. Abel must be worried sick.

The nurse lays me back down trying to calm my nerves but I have to go see him!

"Miss, everything will be okay. Wait did you say Abel? Yeah that's right. That's the man in the waiting room." He says.

"He's my brother." I say. I know they only let family in and I have to see him.

"Really? Oh. I'll let him in."

He believed me? What kind of a hospital is this?

A few minutes pass and Abel runs into the room. He's breathing heavy. The Doctor and nurse step out for a moment leaving Abel and I alone. Minutes of silence pass.

"Hey." He finally says.

"Hi."

"How are you feeling?"

"Probably as bad as I look." I say.

"Kris, do you have any memory of 2 nights ago?"

"Not really, the last thing I remember is getting ready to go see you and then it's all a blur." I reply.

Abel bite his lip in nervousness and sighs.

"Caleb."

I sit up and whine

"Please lay! It's okay. He's locked up right now. On bail anyways but dude has no family so.. Anyways, as I was coming to see you I saw him. I opened your door and you were there on the couch. Sleep? Passed out? I'm not sure. So I called 911 and told them the situation. They sent cops after Caleb and sent an ambulance. You've pretty much been in and out of sleep. This is the first time you've been awake long enough to actually be aware and talk and stuff."
