It was one of the greatest discoveries yet in the field of astronomy. We'd searched all this time for other forms of sentient life, and to find out it was so close? The year was 2189 when we had first made contact. We had been expecting something big with the first forms of sentient life we would find other than our own, but what we found was simply astonishing.
An entire planet exactly like ours, and exactly is no exaggeration. We had set up a stable transmission on a specialized computer designed to be able to instantly transport video from halfway across the galaxy with hardly any delay. When we got on we stared at ourselves; the planet we had found was a mirror of our own.
We thought we had made a mistake at first, but something just seemed off. We sent an imaging drone after the coordinates of the signal, but it was damaged halfway through the trip. Upon reviewing the signal it had sent moments before the incident, we found an image of itself, but about a mile away. Self imaging was not possible with the software so this could mean only one possibility: an exact copy of it had been sent on the exact same path, and they had collided.
We realized what this must have meant and we instantly reestablished a video connection with what we referred to as "homogemina". We couldn't exactly have a conversation as we spoke at the exact same time and knew everything about each other. But through obviously mutual agreement we decided to send ships to each other and meet up halfway.
This had proven to be the biggest mistake in both of our human histories.
