Twenty second of April, 1999. A girl was sitting on the fountain. She wore a dress and a jacket. She was about six years old; she was looking up to the sky like waiting for something, like a falling star.
“People are like shooting stars. A spectacular moment of light from the heaven. A pleading glimpse of eternity. But in a flash, we are gone.”
“Sophie..”
A boy appeared around the bushes. He was wearing polo and jeans, carrying a box beside him. The boy walked directly to the girl and placed a box on her lap.
“Happy 7th Birthday, Sophie.”
Sophie didn’t know what to say. When she opened it, she was shocked of the gift.
“For Sophiea’s Heart”
She saw a gold necklace. A simple heart necklace.
“It’s wonderful!” she touched the necklace and turned to him. “You really bought this for me? But you don’t have to. My birthday is on the 27th day of April, not twenty second and lastly how do you know that I’m here?” She asked looked confused.
“Same place you always, always love to come whenever you want to be alone,” he muttered. “Hey, let me put it around your neck.”
And so did the boy. The necklace fits on her. She looked wonderful. It perfectly paired with her complexion. She looked to him in amazement.
The boy turned to her, “I’m afraid, I might not be on the day that you will be celebrating your birthday, Sophie,” the boy frowned at her. “I’ll miss you, Sophie.” he continued.
“That’s why you gave me this gift five days ahead?. You’re leaving, again?” at first she was sad then began to smile.
The boy blinked. “You don’t look upset.”
“Well, I’m sure in one thing.”
“What? Which thing?”
The girl took a deep breath and said, “I’m not gonna miss you.”
“Pardon?” the boy looked surprised.
He waited her reaction.
The girl saw his face asking questions then laughed. She looked up to the sky liked she doesn’t know how to explain the things to him.
“How can I miss you? You are always here inside me.” She admitted.
The boy didn’t answer. She was waiting for him to ask why; she shook her head and grabbed the hand of the boy then laid it on her heart.
“Here, TJ, Always here.” Sophie smiled at him like an angel.
