Chapter 7

It was quickly approaching 10:30pm and I my mind was going into over-drive.

I had been sat on a rock by the lake in the woods by the Spectrum for over 3 hours, the flask that I was holding had long gone cold and the whispers of the night were getting gradually louder. But none of that bothered me,

My thoughts were all that I could hear.

I stood up and dusted any dirt that may have collected on my clothes. I began to walk, trying to get the stiffness out of my bones.

By the time the cramps in my legs had subsided, and another nervous check of my watch, it was time to go.

I jogged to the derelict cow shed that lay deep in the woods, the sudden movements of my running seemed to frighten some of the nocturnal animals in the woods, but my cheeks started to flush with colour.

I slowed down to a moderate walk, so I didn't arrive too red at the cowshed.

I began to take in my surroundings, preparing for what Elliot was about to tell me. A thought suddenly occurred to me, why would I supposedly law-abiding citizen of Mythrin know about the cow shed that laid deep in the woods?

I suppose he could ask the same of me.

The mayor's daughter isn't supposed to poach in the woods, isn't supposed to have a small hide away where her father once hid in the woods.

Where he last came before his death.

I heard a sudden cough and whipped around. Immediately reaching for my bow and stretching to retrieve an arrow from my quiver, I drew my arrow back and prepared to shoot,

"Woah...take it easy..."

I lowered my bow.

It was just Elliot.

I returned the arrow to the quiver and let my hand, that was clasping my bow, hit my side. And let my breath, and adrenaline, settle once more.

"That was pretty intense...how does the mayor's daughter know how to shoot?"

I looked into his face and considered the question he was asking me.

My first instinct was to trust him, and that was normally right so I went with it.

Maybe just not everything, I would spare him the sob story tonight.

"A girl round these parts needs a hobby, right? Anyway, how does a boy from the Spectrum know where the cow shed is in the woods? You do realise that the woods are prohibited for ALL residents of Mythrin?"

Elliot's faces formed one of shock. And then it melted into a cheeky grin.

“Feisty girl are we? Or just a snob? Aren’t you included in ‘ALL the residents of Mythrin?’”

I just gave him a fake smile whilst I mentally cursed myself. I decided to let my barriers slip a little. I maybe a feisty hunter girl, but I still was human. Still drawn to the infamous Elliot Parker charm.

“My father taught me how to shoot when I was younger. I hunt in the woods after school. My mother has no idea as she is too busy at the Chambers. So long as attend the monthly meetings with her and I am there at all the formal events, I am fine. She is completely clueless.” I explain to Elliot, trying to stay off the subject of my father, I don’t know Parker that well yet. I don’t want to give too much away, in case, for the first time ever, my gut instincts aren’t right.

“She’s not just clueless about my hunting either,” I finish, murmuring under my breath.

Elliot shoots a curious look at me. Probably wondering why I am speaking for negatively of my mother.

“What you staring at Parker? You still scared I’m gonna shoot? You never know, you might start to annoy me, you better watch your back,” I jokingly threatened him.

“I could take you down with my bare hands Opal Severine. Anyday….” Elliot responds, rather cockily as I uses my ‘famous’ to retaliate.

I grin at him as I walk past him, and he seems confused as I appear to be ditching him.

“You coming or not Parker?”

He simply jogs to catch up with me, as I once again retrieve an arrow from my quiver, in case we meet any trouble.

Or if Elliot really does annoy me that much.

Although I doubt that will happen.

A/N- Hope everyone enjoyed J I’ll try and get the next chapter up by tomorrow, but as I said before, no promises J
