I woke up with the sun glaring at me. Everything was broken down and destroyed next to me was a extremely damaged blue Sudan and a duffle bag, along with a dead man who looked like he was trying to crawl out of his car but was killed in the process. I first searched the dead guy, and he had a spare jacket on him, so I put it on along with a spare set of clothes I had on me. I thought I looked ridiculous. I was wearing a blue T-shirt, black denim jeans, Steel-toed boots, and now a green Nike jacket. I decided to search the car and see what's up. Nothing.

"Great! Just fantastic!" I yelled to myself

I decided to move to the bag. It didn't seem very heavy, but when I opened it, I nearly screamed. There was a 22. rifle in the bag! It had a couple of clips and a sling, but that was it besides a flashlight, which was out of batteries.

"This guy was loaded. Why'd he have a rifle on him? Hmm....I wonder whats going on." I said

I continued down a dusty and trash filled road with the clips in my pocket and the rifle on my back. The scope was broken on it, so I decided to take it of and huck it into the grass. i had bare sights and was ready to go. I continued to go down the road, seeing crippled buildings and broken houses. It was almost like the place was deserted and bombed. I shrugged. I didn't remember anything accept when I woke up. I saw a building that looked intact in the distance. I was pretty sure it was a cabin, but I wasn't completely positive. I ran to it, hoping that maybe, just maybe, there were people. They could tell me whats going on! I got to the door and stopped. I waited, listening for any sign of life. Nothing. I couldn't hear anything. I knocked, then tried to open the door. It was unlocked...But why? I went inside and shut the door behind me. I could hear shuffling upstairs, like a dogs toe nails scraping against linoleum. I snatched my rifle of my back and slowly crept upstairs. The shuffling stopped once I reached the top. I fumbled around in my pockets for a clip and loaded up. I opened a door to the sound of barking and a dog jumped on me! It licked my face and panted and barked at me. It was a German Shepard! I was excited! I found a dog! It looked friendly and had a collar. I looked at its tag. It said Lady on it! It was a she!? I said her name and she cocked and turned her head, wagging her tail and whimpering. It walked around with a limp, so I called it over and examined her. She had a sprained leg! I gathered a couple sticks and tore up my jacket. I created a splint for her! She seemed nervous with this item attached to her, but she walked better again. I was satisfied. i went downstairs with Lady trailing me. I went to the kitchen and searched the fridge, cupboards and sink for anything. I found some canned food and a cooking pot. I tested the stove to see if it worked. It didn't, unsurprisingly. I cursed and decided to go outside. I immediately turned around and yelled "NOPE!"

It was pitch black outside. I went back inside and sat on the torn up couch in the main room. I sighed a sigh of relief. It felt nice to relax again...

Then I heard a scream outside, along with howling of wolves. I snatched up my gun and burst through the door. A woman was running from a pack of rabid dogs! I shot them down and stopped her in her tracks.

"Who are you?" We asked each other

"Ladies first." I replied

"I'm Summer." She stuck out her hand "Pleased to meet your acquaintance."

I shook her hand. "I'm Tom Barron." Lady showed up behind me and nuzzled my leg. "Oh, and this is Lady."

She barked and rubbed up against Summer. She giggled and pet Lady's head. I invited Summer into the house and she sat on the sofa. She was beautiful in the light. She had brown, long hair and was wearing jeans, a red and black plaid shirt and some All-stars. She had the bluest eyes I'd ever seen. She was shorter then me, but she was gorgeous. She had a button nose and seemed to smile a lot. She looked at me and said "Thanks for saving me, Tom."

I smiled and felt warm inside. "No problem Beautif- I mean Summer"

She raised her eyebrows and said "What were you about to say?"

"Beautiful..." I said with a sigh

She giggled and blushed. "You really think so?"

"Of course! You're amazing!" I exclaimed

"But you've just met me." she replied

"To me, that doesn't matter. You're here and I'm in love." I told her "Doesn't that matter?"

"I suppose. But you're not going to fall back on that are you?" She asked

"Never" I promised

"Okay then." She got up. "Then I feel the same."

She hugged me. I hugged her back. This was the first time I'd felt warm in a while.

"Alright, I'm going to bed." She said.

"There's a Queen sized bed upstairs, first door on your right." I said "I'll be up in a bit"

I sat on the couch and quietly listened to the wind whistling outside. Lady hopped up on the couch and laid her head across my lap. I pet her and kept watch. Nothing. I went upstairs and went to bed with Summer. I fell asleep to the wind howling and trees swaying. I felt accomplished. I'd survived the first day.
