I woke up the next morning to the sunlight peering through the window. Summer was out of bed and there was a note where she was sleeping.

"Gone to look for supplies, took Lady with me. Be back soon!

Love, Summer"

I put the note on the box next to the bed and went downstairs. My rifle was still on the couch collecting dust. I went outside and grabbed some stones to make a fire pit. I got enough to make a circle and grabbed some sticks and wood. I took two more stones and made a makeshift flint and steel. I made the fire pit in what used to be a fireplace, but was now a just a empty chimney. I placed the wood in a tipi formation and struck the rocks over the pit and created fire. I took the cooking pot and made a makeshift cooking area over the fire. I cooked the can of beans I had and enjoyed. I went to the sink and took the can with me. I turned the knob on the sink to see if water would run.

"Pshhh"  Went the sink.

I filled up my can and studied the water inside. It was a murky dark brown. I thought that I should probably heat it up and clean it before I even thought about drinking it. I proceeded to do so, and I achieved clear water! I took a sip after I let it cool and it was delicious. I took a sigh of relief and put out the fire. Just then, Summer and Lady burst in through the door. Lady was panting and Summer had a brief look of shock on her face, then relief.

"What's wrong?" I asked

"I saw fire coming from the house on my way back and freaked out. I thought the house was burning!" She sighed. "Thank god you're okay."

"Yep, I'm fine." I said with a smile

She walked over and gave me a hug, then looked at me and said "Here's what I found: A bit of food, some water, bullets, and a grill top. Lady also found some Aloe Vera and Blueberries. I picked both of those and brought them here. I saw a deer or two not too far off and let them be. They looked just as afraid as us. Anyway, that's all I found while I was out." She smiled and turned around to sit down. She sat and enjoyed herself some beans and water. I did a recollection of what we have, then sat next to her and relaxed. We had a rather relaxing day, and nothing really happened. Night approached and we went to bed...

"Summer?" I asked

"Yeah? What is it?" She replied

"What was your life like before all this happened?" I said

"Well, I was a chef at a restaurant in Seattle. But, then all this happened. There were dead people attacking others on the street and the living were raiding the streets and taking over. So, I left and have been on the run. I was chased by a pack of rabid dogs when you showed up and saved me. I said thanks for that didn't I?" She said

"Yes, you did." I answered

She snuggled up close and hugged me tight. I rolled over and kissed her. When I pulled back, she looked at me with sparkle in her eyes.

"I love you so much" She whispered with a smile

I smiled back and fell asleep. I thought to myself that it was a great day. I hadn't done much, yet I felt accomplished.

I woke up to moaning outside and scratching at the door. I ran downstairs and grabbed my rifle. I loaded it up and kicked open the door. There were zombies surrounding the house! I kicked one in the face as Lady ran out and tackled another. They had a scuffle, but ultimately, Lady won. I hit one with the butt of my rifle and crushed its skull. I shot two and knocked down another. It almost got up before I shot it. Dead. They were all dead.

"Holy schnikies!" I panted "Those were a lot of zombies."

Just then, Summer ran out and hollered to me "What happened?"

"They happened" I pointed to the corpses.

"Eww...That's gross." she revolted

"Anyway, I'm hungry. You?" I said

"Yeah, I could eat." She replied

We had a hearty meal of chicken noodle soup and water. Then we fed Lady and decided to search the house for books. We found a couple and began reading those to entertain our minds...
