I woke up to Guren knocking on my door. "Ok, ok! I'm coming. Jeez." I yelled as I walked to my door, rubbing my eyes. He opened the door before my hand touched the knob. "Alrighty then. Why are you knocking on my door at-" I looked down at my watch. "8:12 in the morning?" I asked.
"Did you sneak out again?"
My eyes widened slightly. "Um, n-no why?"
"Your bike is outside in the bushes."
"It is?" I said. I felt a bead of sweat go down the back of my neck. "Plus your shirt is outside on the back steps." He said, leaning on the doorframe and crossing his arms. "I-I don't know how that got there." I stuttered, shrugging my shoulders.
"You're not very good at lying Yuichiro."
"I'm not lying!"
"Sure you aren't. Anyways, you gotta clean up the place. No going to the aquarium today."
"But Guren! I have to learn more about Mikaela!"
He looked over at me weirdly. "Who the hell is Mikaela?"
"The mermaid." I said, sitting on my bed. "You named the mermaid?" He asked. "No, that's what he told me." I said. "You really think I believe that thing talks? It's a fish."
"That's part human."
"Whatever. Finish all the chores here and I feel like it, I'll let you go to the aquarium." He said and left me alone. I groaned loudly and flopped back onto my bed. Finally, after twenty minutes of just laying there, I finally got the motivation to get up. As I got changed, I noticed the gills were still there. "Are you serious?" I said, surprised that they were still there. "Yuichiro! Let's go!" Guren called from downstairs. "I'm coming! Calm down!" I yelled back and put my shirt on. I slid down the railing and headed into the kitchen to do the dishes. After that was done I got the laundry done, changed out the parrot cage, and cleaned up the house a bit. By then it was almost 1:46. "Guren! Everything's done! Can I go now?" I yelled. It was silent for about twenty seconds.
"Be back before 7, as usual."
I smiled and grabbed my jacket and wallet. "Thank you!" I yelled as I ran out the back door to grab my bag and bike. I road down to the aquarium. Once I arrived, I noticed something was wrong. There was a police car there, which was not usually there. I decided to go through the front to not cause to much attention. After I paid for my ticket, I managed to sneak through the officers that were asking questions and finally made it to the exhibits. Then, I heard lots of "awes" coming from upstairs. I rushed up there to see what was happening to see everyone crowded by where Mikaela was. I pushed through to the front and saw him peeking around the corner of the rock. He looked scared, as always. I smiled and sat down where the kids were up by the glass. He noticed me and smiled slightly.
"Come on. Come out. Don't be scared, they won't hurt you."
"But they will. I know it."
"You're protected by glass. A lot of force is gonna be needed to break that."
He closed his eyes as if he was taking a deep breath. Then he slowly came out into the open. Everyone exploded into applaud as he came into full view.
"W-what are they doing?"
"They like you! I told you you would be ok."
He smiled slightly and looked around at everyone. Then he looked up and his expression changed completely. It was almost like he just saw a demon or something. He sat there, terrified then quickly swam away to behind the rock. I looked up at where he once was confused. Slowly everyone finally left, leaving us alone again. I peered into the tank and he wasn't even in his normal hiding spot.
