                                                                            Chapter: 5

The ride to my new "home" was quiet. The strange events of the episode in the airport plaza was still stuck in the back of my mind. What if I really was imagining things? I mean I am exhausted and upset about my leaving. David had both hands on the wheel, his coal eyes watching the road in front of us like the pavement was an enemy. Every now and again his long fingers would flex over the leather making it wrinkle a tiny bit.

"So.." I started looking out of the window at the passing greenery and occasional houses.

"So what?" he didn't look back instead he looked more focused on the road than anything else.

"How do you know where I live? Like I never told where." he looked baffled at this like he wasn't expecting this question at all to come about, but that was only for a second for one second he looked scared but as soon as that look came he masked it with a look of confidence. Like a kid that stole a cookie from the cookie jar but wasn't worried about the consequences because they already had a smooth alibi. "I heard you talking to your dad about it when you said you were going to take a cab. I decided as a good citizen I shouldn't let you do that in a town like this."

"Hmm, really I thought you went to your car to put your bags away," CAUGHT, he had forgot that he had crumbs around the mouth. David's eyes got tight and so did his grip on the wheel. He didn't answer instead he pulled up to a stubby two story house that looked five seconds from sinking into the ground. It was a tainted brownish-green with a white fence going around the porch. On the porch was a swing and two sickly bushes on either side of the dark wooded door.

"Pine Grove Main 236, this is your stop." he glanced at me throwing a tiny smile of white teeth.

"Thanks for the ride.." I got out and closed my door, he got out as well and slide both of my bags out of the back seat. He didn't walk me too the door and I was glad for that, he stood in front of the car his tall figure leaned up against the hood with his arms crossed. I waved back to him "See you around?", God that was awkward. He threw a hand back and still stood there. Creep much? I thought to myself. I rolled my bag up the unsteady steps then bumped it up the three stone steps. Before I could knock the door swung open to reveal my father. He looked down at me and wrapped me in a tight hug.

"Hey honey, welcome home." He took a step from me to grab the handle of my roller-bag. At that point he then noticed David still standing with his arms crossed in front of the car. He tilted a slight nod as if it was approval for something David returned it back. "Bye David." I waved again adding a smile. He smiled a little his eyes tight like they were in the car. "Come on honey you must be tired," he walked inside of the house and so did I. Guess this is it.
