CHAPTER 27--Kurosaki Ichigo
We soon came to the cliff we'd seen coming across the long narrow bridge into the village. A river rushed fast and cold below. I was suddenly thirsty. I smacked my lips and got a peeved look from Sakura.
Like with most girls, I couldn't figure her out; but so far, I think I annoyed her. I had no idea why, though. I grunted to myself as we scanned the edge of the cliff, bordered by a wooden fence.
We'd chased Iji from the woods out beyond the fence again, but now there was no trace.
"Did she fall in?" Sakura asked, suddenly realizing and beginning to panic.
"No," I calmed her. "I can still feel her presence..." And something else I hoped I wasn't right about...
There was another feeling, THAT feeling again. This punk had been following us since I dusted that hollow. And yeah, he'd probably seen everything. Sooner or later I'd have to scare him into silence... But finding Iji seemed more important.
"There!" Sakura ran over to the fence and opened the top of one of the wooden slats. A secret compartment! I guessed ninjas just had a sixth sense for stuff like that, because I wouldn't have noticed.
A rope ladder unfolded down the side of the cliff. I looked at Sakura and she rolled her eyes, so I went down first, a bit grudgingly.
When we both got down, it rolled back up and snapped back into place, closing the secret compartment. Sakura pushed her foot down in the place where I was standing, just under the ladder. "Pressure plate, very crafty." Totally a ninja sixth sense.
We walked up the incline, following a more worn path. It led back up into the woods, but way beind the limits of the rather large village.
We found a small cottage, nestled in between the trees. Sakura knocked on the door but I saw between the curtains, inside the wide window.
"What the?! That little- RAWR!" I kicked open the door and found her perfectly fine, not emotionally broken up at all, playing on some parallel universe version of a GameBoy while lounging over a crappily built chair!
"What the f-" She jumped in surprise, but quickly tried to recover, throwing the game under het blanket. "I mean, WAH! You stupid jerk, you broke my door! The door my late dog built for me! He was just a puppy when he died-"
"YOU LITTLE LIAR! QUIT THE RETARDED ACT-!" I said stepping closer. She suddenly collapsed into my arms. "Ah, y- your hurting me stranger..."
And at that moment, Sakura decided to enter. You can guess what happened next.
"Alright, alright, you got me," she said a few minutes later, pouring us tea while I rubbed my swollen face.
She found us both a mismatched seat and we sat down. Kon loudly wiggled his way out of my bag, screaming insults as usual. But then he laid eyes on Iji.
"Oooh my love, I must know your name, the heavenly call which I shall whisper against my pillow-"
Iji seemed to know the deal, because she raised her leg to intercept Kon before he could reach her.
"The truth, Iji." I said, cutting to the point.
"Please," Sakura added gently.
"You guys first." She said crossing her arms.
I cursed. She was so annoing!
"Ok, I'm..." I looked warily at Sakura. She gave me a warning to limit it. "I'm Kurosaki Ichigo. I'm something called a Soul Reaper. No, it's not as bad as it sounds. We escort souls to the afterlife and destroy those demons, the hollows."
