CHAPTER 31--Kurosaki Ichigo
"Iji Yui's mother WAS a witch. At least thats what the villagers saw. She posessed a special kind of chakra that no one knew. It didn't run through her system, it was just... THERE. In the middle of her being." Jin told us.
It sounded like... spirit energy, maybe? But this had to have happened WAY before we fell into this mess...
"Iji's mom, Raki came here with Iji when she was a newborn, without a husband." Jin continued.
The village welcomed her with open arms, and they lived here happily. I, uh, I met Iji when we were kids, and we were... good friends..." Jin looked down at Iji. He seemed to want to stroke her head or something, but he silently looked down at his hands in his lap again.
"Up until about a two years ago, everything was fine. People still whispered about the strange woman who lived in the cottage in the woods, but all in all, they were happy.
"Then one night, everything fell apart. I remember coming outside to a raging fire, and seeing Iji on the grind crying infront of her mother. We rushed her to the hospital, and she was shaking and spasming terribly. No one knew what was going on. We were all terrified, especially Iji.
"In the morning, she had stopped, but wasn't responsive to anything. They tried everything, but at one point they said they'd do no more.
"They claimed that anyone who went in to treat her that morning on, 'saw the horrors of the universe'. And that's all they would say. The only ones who would and could go in to try to take care of her were me and Iji. They told us that the energy in her was fighting her body, and killing her from the inside. We went to see her every day, well Iji did, I had to sneak out, to come, because my parents didn't approve.
"The last time I went, Iji's mother showed me what everyone else was talking about. I- I can't describe it, but I felt something so powerful and evil, that I was comatose for three days. Well you can imagine I was forbidden from coming to see them both for a while.
"Then, after a year, Rika passed away. There was a huge explosion as her body gave its last push. The head doctor managed to barely save Iji.
"And well, from that day, Iji's always been a bit ostracized. They, they always picked on her... And it got worse..." His hands were shaking and clenched into fists. Sakura tilted her head and gave a sad smile.
What? Had she just figured something out?! What, what?! Something important was totally going over my head right now.
"I- I shouldn't have... I shouldve helped... I- I SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO WEAK!" he yelled, streaming agonized tears. It had to be hard, to watch a friend suffer for so long.
Ah-nd right on que I heard a roar and felt a VERY strong spirit rise.
Perfect. "Jin, calm down!" Sakura yelled. "Your emotions are affecting Iji!" He whipped his head to Sakura. The ground started shaking with huge explosions.
"What? You mean Iji- Iji's doing this...? I...-"
"Well, I'M going now, before the village gets torn apart!" I yelled.
"Me, too. You stay with Iji, Jin. You know what to do." Sakura said, opening the door.
Before I flashed away, I saw Jin nod his head and give Iji's hand a squeeze, wiping his tears and clenching his teeth.
Sakura and I swooped over the tall gate and right into the fire, literally. It was night now, and the fires illuminated the large village. Big white hollows milled around throwing their long arms into buildings and snatching up people.
