I woke up the next morning and Zoe wasn't beside me. I sat up and ran a hand through my hair. I thought of all the things I wanted to do today and I decided that I was going to ask Zoe if she wanted to go shopping. Even though it was only the end of Novmeber I wanted to start doing Christmas shopping.
Zoe was somewhere in the rest of the house so I shut the door and got dressed quickly before washing my face. I was so tired, even though it was about nine in the morning. I usually didn't wake up any time before noon; it was like a rule to me.
After I had gotten dressed I opened the door and walked down the hall to the bathroom. If I was trying to be productive, I might as well wash my face too. After I had finished that I went down the stairs to go and find Zoe.
She was sitting on the couch reading a book and drinking hot chocolate. An empty plate of crumbs sat in front of her. She looked up at the sound of my feet padding on the ground. Before I could ask her if she wanted to go shopping she asked a question that came out of nowhere.
"Did you ever think I would like you back?" after she asked this question she set her book down and looked up at me expectantly.
"What?" I asked confused. I sat next to her and looked into her pretty blue eyes.
"Well you obviously liked me first. When you did, did you ever think there was the slightest chance that I would like you back?" she asked this with unfaltering eyes.
"Not really," I said shrugging the question off. It didn't seem important to me. No one ever thinks that their crush is going to like them back. Why would I ever think Zoe would like me back? It was amazing that she ever had.
"Why not?" she asked. I was confused as to why she was asking all these questions but I tried to play along.
"I guess no one ever thinks the person they like will like them back. When they do, that's what special," I said with a smile.
"You're right Alfie. The fact that I like you is special," she said with a giggle.
"If you like someone and they don't like you back, they're not the right person to like," I added. I don't know what made me say this though. Zoe hadn't liked me for months, but I still liked her. "You have to perservere though, because they will eventually fall for you at one point or another."
"Wow, getting deep," Zoe said with another giggle.
"I guess I am kind of deep. So do you want to go Christmas shopping today?" I asked changing the subject.
Zoe's eyes lit up as she answered, "Of course!"
