It's wasn't a shock when Tomika and Freddy were casted as this years leads in the musical. They both had stage presence and talent. The only probable wa is that they were in love in the show. And they had to kiss. And Tomika's best friend happened to be Freddy's girlfriend. Summer didn't make it into the show because she didn't have a great singing voice. Instead she's stage managing, so she has plenty to do.
Opening night was busy. Lizzy, the costume designer, tied Tomika's costume tighter till she was sure that it wouldn't fall off on stage. Tomika smiled and went to find Freddy to give him a good-luck hug. She didn't feel anything.
It was he last scene of the show, the kissing scene. Tomika always felt awkward doing this because she knew Summer was always watching. But I never meant anything so Summer didn't have to worry. Tomika did it as routine as always. She let Freddy's character drag her character aside, and they locked lips. Except it was different this time. Tomika felt something, and she was sure Freddy felt it too. They pulled apart and sang the final number of the show. They took their bows with the red of the cast and the curtain closed. Freddy went off stage and Summer kissed him passionately. Tomika mentally kicked herself. She couldn't feel anything. Freddy was her best friends boyfriend, and this? This was only for the show.
