Chapter One
Dawn and Dularis, temporary guards for the Lumira Guardians, who were both assigned to the Forbidden Forest, raced out of the deep woods, the very place they were supposed to look after and keep in line. Why were they abandoning their post? Soon after their breaking through the tight circle of trees that enclosed the dreary place, two shadows wove in and out of the trees, carrying one projectile launcher each. These missiles were extremely dangerous to those who did not know how to use them, and we're designed for evil purposes.
The two shadows exited the woods, materializing as translucent specters, ghastly forms of evil spirits long since departed. While one specter began to About 300 yards from the beginning of the circle of trees, a thick cylindrical casing of ice surrounded a vertical coffin, constructed of one flawless piece of hematite. Visible even from that distance, a black aura seemed to emanate from the air outside the ice, the place of origin somewhere inside the coffin. Once the two launchers were properly set up, the two specters grimaced at each other. Then, they both cackled and fired their harbingers of doom.
Slam! Crack! The bombs slammed into the wall of ice, penetrating about three inches into the cylinder. The shards of black mist swirling around the outside surrounded both the holes and seemed to sink into the coffin, absorbed by the evil force. Suddenly, the ice around the coffin spontaneously exploded, sending the particles of the ice wall twenty feet in the air.
Once all the snowy particles settled, the coffin, in its original vertical position, suddenly snapped into a position parallel to the icy ground. Both specters screamed in fright and vaporized. The coffin lid snapped open, and the contents levitated out in the the crisp autumn air. The box, apparently feeling it had no more purpose in this place of evil, vanished into thin air. The form, which was suspended in midair, began to materialize. Instead of the dark misty tendrils of pure inky blackness which had first raised out of the container, the shape transformed into a cloak seemingly made of pure black with a human shape inside.
The form lifted one cloaked hand and hissed a devilish whisper.
"I kknnnow youu arre hidinng frrom me, little girrrl. Yoou cannnot keep rrunning awaay. Yoou willll have to faccce thisss forrest sommetimme. I willll get yoou sommeday." With these words, the entity raised its arms slightly past the waist, and disappeared into a cloud of smoke.
The few wisps of black mist that still lingered among the piles of snow and slush floated into the more open air, wrapped around two trees nearby, then floated deeper into the forest. The two trees that the mist had touched turned black, as if they had been burnt badly by flames. They both curled into smoking stumps that hugged the ground.
