Chapter 3 -seeing him.

The night was cold and the sky was over cast but there was a spot in the sky where the moon shone through. Camp was set and Ino lay conked out on her side fast asleep. I couldn't sleep so I took the first watch.

Naruto hade made sure to convince me not to go alone, that he would go with me to get kakashi but I'm not going to wait for him. I need to get going. Winter is coming its chilling the land, trees have a light coating of frost every morning and at night the cold air descends on us like a thousand knives of ice.

Winter is worse in the forests, Konoha it's generally warmer it's snows but it's too cold in the forests for even that. My breath came in billowing breaths, rolled and curled as the moon shone through it. I couldn't help but wonder where my sensei was, I could only picture the worst.

Locked up in an empty cell, or bleeding out on the cold white snow. It would be Ino's turn on watch soon, I'd have a bit I conversation before going to sleep.

Arctic winds blew trough the trees, and sometimes created a wailing sound. From behind a tree i saw something, I focused my sight, a silvery glint in the moon light. I rubbed my tired eyes. The figure was ghostly pale, translucent looking not totally opaque. The thing turned around the tree and stood still.

"Kakashi!!" I screamed. I jumped to my feet and darted across the close distant. I must have woken my friends because as I closed in on the figure three pairs if hands pulled me back. It was him- I could feel his energy calling me.

I struggled agains them calling his name. Kakashi stood and watched a kind of smile on his face. "Why won't you let me go to him!!" I shouted pulling against three ninja. "Calm down sakura, calm" soothed Ino.

I watched as Kakashi mouthed "everything will be alright" a thing he said to me a lot when I was young. But nothing was alright, the war, sasuke's death and now his disappearance.

"It's not alright, you lied" I screamed in vain. Kakashi then faded out.

"Sakura please calm down, who are you screaming at! Everything is alright" Ino questioned me lightly. I scanned the forest frantically. Naruto knelt beside me on the ground where he looked into my eyes and kissed me in the forehead.

"Your tired sakura, aren't you?" He asked "tired of the worry and stress, I'm so sorry, I sure Sasuke would be sorry too"

"Naruto, I saw him, Kakashi he was over there" I optioned at the direction he had come from. Tears had begun to trickle down my cheeks. Shikamaru had stayed quiet out of respect and Ino too. They knew the feeling of losing a teacher, but Asuma was killed and died gracefully, Kakashi was taken and in reach and I couldn't even go to find him.

"I'll take the next watch" shika said softly. He rubbed my arm and walked away back to his spot quietly. I knew he felt loss and regret. I just felt lonely.

Ino knelt to my right side. I looked at her my eyes burning. She wrapped me in her arms. Her hug helped.

"Come on sakura" she cooed. I sighed and got up with her and walked back to our little set up.

"Will you tell me about Sai" I asked, my voice soft and innocent. I need the distraction. I felt frayed and frazzled. Tired and drained. Panicked and helpless.

"Sure" she nodded.

We sat leaning against the fallen tree where we had set our things down at. I rested my head against Ino's shoulder and pulled my cloak around me properly.
