I guess you could say I didn't plan on stealing the car. Well, not at first anyway. I was on a mission, I just wasn't really sure what it was yet. Sometimes, you have to drive across the country with someone to find out what you really want. The plan didn't even start forming until about 10 minutes before. But  now, sitting on the side of the road, twenty miles away from Miami, I realize i probably should have thought this through more. I think back to before I left. Regretting this decision immensely.

"Kasie, get in here!"

I walk down the stairs grudgingly. I know what's coming.

"Yes Mom?" I call as I enter the living room.

"Why don't you come down and spend some time with us like a normal person. You can't spend all your time holed away in your room by yourself."

"Mom, I'm studying. For the SAT's. Any other parent in the world would be thrilled."

"Yes, but you don't need to revolve your entire world around your schoolwork. You're a teenager. You should be out, having fun! Messing up! doing teenager things."

"Well, have you ever stopped to think maybe I don't want to be the average teenager. Maybe I want to add up to something more, get into a better college, get a job that doesn't pay minimum wage!" I fume. I storm up to my room, and I can practically feel steam coming out of my ears. But the thing I'm not expecting, is tears pricking the back of my eyes. That's when the plan starts to form in my head.

A road trip. Yes, that's it. That's exactly what I need. To get away. So, in that moment, I decided, that I would  go. To where, I wasn't exactly sure, but I knew I was getting out of there. So I waited until I heard my moms door slam, and then grabbed the keys to the second car. I knew it needed work, but it drove, and that was good enough for me. I walk out the front door, closing it softly so my mom doesn't hear.

So, that's how I ended up here. Stuck on a highway outside of Miami, sweating with my strawberry blonde hair matting to my head. I step out of the car and open the hood. Black smoke billows out of the middle. I call the only person I can think of.

"Hello?"

"Hey. Uh, it's me. Kasie. I, uh, know this is out of the blue, but, I'm about twenty miles away, and, my car broke down. I was wondering, if you could come get me. "

"Oh! Um, I mean, Yeah sure..."

"I'm sorry."

"Yeah, no problem, I'll be right there."

(Owens p.o.v.)

My relationship with Kasie has been... interesting for some time now. We were best friends all the way up until fourth grade, and then she, well,  changed. She became focused, organized, and we just didn't... click anymore. We've kept up a general acquaintance over the years and in fourth grade, when we knew we were growing apart, that, if we ever needed the other, we'd be there.

So, when she called me while I was playing video games that afternoon. Her, of all people. It came as a surprise. I quickly grabbed my keys  and walked down the stairs, not knowing quite what to say when my mom sees me.

"Going somewhere?" she asks curiously.

"Uh, yeah, just to... pick up a friend."

"Which friend?"
