The next evening, everything played out the way it had before, but as I slipped out of the trees shadows, I raise my head, and realize I'm not alone.
"Hello." A girl stands several feet away, her hair light blonde and fluffy like full moon clouds and her eyes are large and blue like the ocean on a sunny afternoon. She's wearing a light blue dress and a pair of huge lead shoes with buckles crisscrossing over the top of her feet.
"Hi." Although the greeting is casual, my legs are tense, waiting for the proper moment to run away. "Are you Rosetta?" "Who wants to know?" "My name is Emma, and there's something we have in common."
I take a risk by walking out into the moonlight, my fluttering friends hum a warning, but bravely I ignore it.
"What do we have in common?" I highly doubt this angelic teen could control darkness.
"We both have a peculiarity." "What's that?" "Something that makes us different." There's something about this girl that makes me feel safe. I stride over and stop when I'm at arm's length away.
"Are there other's like us?" "Only a few. But you've got to come with me if you want to meet them."
I hesitated, mom and dad are both out on business trips, and if they were to come back, they'd assume I'd be at a friends house
"I'd love to." Emma smiled, took ahold of my hand, and happily we ran down the deserted streets.

After some time, our run slowed to a walk and for a time we talked as casually as if we had been friends all our life. Suddenly, we heard the snap of a twig. We were no longer alone.
My night vision eyes caught sight of a monster creeping towards us on our left. Pushing Emma to the side, I flicked my wrist and a strip of black sent the creature flying. Hearing the thump and seeing the fire in my eyes, Emma grabbed my arm and we began to run.
For some time, we kept on running and I kept the monster at bay. Eventually, we lost it by ducking inside a hollow tree.
"What was that?" It took Emma a few seconds to respond. "Something really bad." I was tempted to question further but Emma looked so frightened I kept my mouth shut.

We ended up stowing away on a travel ferry to a small English country-side. Emma dragged me across the damp green grass and ducked into a small cave. I paused briefly, before ducking in after her.
