A blissful sigh escapes your lips as you look at your wedding gown- clad body in the mirror before you. Yes, today was your wedding day. The day you would become one with your high school sweetheart, Antonio Fernández Carriedo, or, just Toni. You had asked for a few moments to yourself before the ceremony, before your last minutes of being a single women. Not that you would want it any other way, of course. You love Toni with all your heart. In fact, you can still remember the day the two of you met, like it was still taking place this very moment...
You took timid steps as you attempted to walk to your home room class. School had only been in for a few days now, kids still introducing themselves, trying to make a quick day friend. You decided you'd just see who you really clicked with. Head stuck in the clouds, you missed seeing a fellow freshman walking towards you. "Hola, chica!" He grinned as he fell in stride with your step. "What's your name?"
"F-fine." You replied, thinking he asked how you were doing. As soon as you realized the mistake you made, your face turned a dark shade of crimson. "I-I mean, (N-name)!"
The cheerful freshman just laughed off your mistake. "My, (Name). You look like a tomato!" That was all he could say about your appearance before being dragged away by an albino kid and a blonde kid, later you came to know as Gilbert and Francis. He was able to shout one last thing to you before being dragged down another hallway. "I'm Antonio, by the way!" With a new found confidence, you headed back towards your destination, a small smile on your lips.
You chuckle slightly at the memory. Then, you silently thanked Toni. Just from that first little "hello," he made making friends for you so much easier that freshman year. It was from the "hello," did you know you had met the man of your dreams.
Freshman year had been a blast. Aside from the occasional, "hi" and, "how are you," in the hallways, you and Toni didn't talk that much the rest of the year. Him being always flanked by Gilbert and Francis all the time, or crazy fan girls, made it hard for you to build the courage to go up and have a decent conversation. No matter. You decided that sophomore year, would be different.
And different it was. He seemed to always walk over to you in the hallway- you would always meet him half way. Those short, quick greetings turned into long discussions. You finally had time to yourself with the emerald eyed boy. Plus, whenever you could, you would cheer him on at his soccer games, which were conveniently right after school. In return, he would try to go to your cross country meets or music recitals. The two of you were becoming fast friends, and you couldn't have been any happier.
Your dreamy sigh soon became a sharp hiss as the thoughts of junior year rolled in.
The day even felt off, with the dreary clouds blocking off the sun's rays and the harsh wind nipping at any showing flesh. You found Antonio by your locker when you walked into school, a huge- and you do mean huge, even for Antonio- grin plastered on his face. He had asked (Girl Name) out to homecoming. She said yes. Now, its not like you really expected him to ask you, but, you did dream. You wanted to scream in his face and break down right there, but instead, you held your ground and smiled at Toni, muttering a congratulations. You wanted to be a good friend to him, just like he was to you. He couldn't help tearing your heart to pieces like that, right?
You remember the day, months after that, when you came into school to find Antonio sobbing at your locker. (G. Name) had broken up with him last night, while they were on their ice skating date. Apparently, she was leaving poor Toni for some senior named Matthew Williams, or, that was her excuse. You had never even heard of the kid. Instead of feeling happy like you had always pictured yourself being for this moment, you couldn't. Of course it hurt seeing Toni and (G.Name) kissing and holding hands, or whenever Toni had to cancel plans he made with you to hang out with her, it hurt even more seeing your friend cry like he was.
You find yourself frowning into the mirror, before smiling at the way things end up. (G.Name) ended up marrying Matthew's brother's friend, Arthur. They ended up having three little ones, and it's heard that this Matthew couldn't be any happier for them. Though you could never see why she broke up with Antonio, you're glad she did, or else senior year would've been a whole lot different.
Toni had been acting... off. You could take a few days of bizarre behavior, but a whole month is just a bit much. He seemed to always be nervous around you- nervous! This is the man who went around after (G.Name) broke up with him, flirting with every girl in sight with Gilbert and Francis, calling themselves the "Bad Touch Trio." Not only that, but weren't they like, the most popular guys in town? Mutiny. You were just about to ask him what was wrong one day, when he spun around to face you, shoving flowers in your face. He asked you out, right there, in front of the entire school. You almost cried you were so happy as you threw the flowers and embraced his body in a hug. "Now you look like the tomato, Toni!"
The two of you then became the dynamic duo of a couple, going to every graduation party together, and event together, all the way until the big night of prom, were the two of you slow danced and partied to the heart's content. The two of you were named the cutest couple that year.
You stop your thoughts at the end of high school. Of course, there were stories of you two in college, like the big break up, the make up, the struggles of a long term relationship, but high school was definitely the best four years of your life. It was, after all, the start of yours and Toni's relationship.
When the time comes for your brides maids to come and finish prepping you for the big day, you feel even more ready with those memories fresh in your mind. Walking down the isle, holding your flowers, your eyes flicker around to your family, Toni's family, your Maid of Honor, the other brides maids, to Toni's best man- or men, should you say, Gilbert and Francis, and his two cousins, the Vargas twins, who are the rest of his party, and then finally, to the man who started it all, looking dashing in his black tuxedo, the love of your life, Antonio Fernández Carriedo, your highschool sweetheart.
