Jasmine's POV
We could see Stephanie running/stumbling towards us. Matt immediately left the car to go help but for some reason, he stopped. I opened the glove compartment and slowly took out the gun. Without saying a word, I looked at Nora who took the gun and exited the vehicle. I watched her as she crept closer. Matt suddenly backs up, almost in to Nora. He takes the gun and from my point of view, I can finally see what's going on. Stephanie. The 'Justice' was holding a weapon at Matt and vice versa. Matt fires first, hitting him in the arm. As soon as the Justice drops his weapon, Matt sprints over and retrieves it. I didn't realize I'm holding my breath until now and I let it all out with a sigh of relief. I roll down my window as I see Nora heading over with an expressionless face.
"Jazz, dial 9-1-1. Stephanie's hurt bad!" She says. I nod and use my phone to call the cops and ambulance. It may have only took five minutes for the emergency personnel to get here but it was the longest five minutes of my life.
They took Stephanie to the hospital and the Justice into custody. An officer also told Matt that a new trial had been set up in two days for the restraining order and, ironically, a separate one for the fate of the Justice. Then, we headed towards the hospital to see Stephanie. The drive was dead silent as a sad mood hung around us. Nobody said a word as we trudged up to the reception desk, Nora and Matt with their legs and me with crutches, in the emergency room. The receptionist told us she will be in room 1021 on the tenth floor. We took the elevator up and soon found ourselves just outside room 1021, nervous to see Stephanie's condition. Nora pushes open the door and all of us step inside the empty room. Three hours pass before two nurses come in pushing Stephanie on a gurney followed by the surgeon. He walks directly over to us.
"I presume you are Stephanie's friends?" He asks.
"That is correct." Matt replies.
"Right. I'm Doctor Martin. Stephanie has just had surgery to remove a bullet from her right hip. Stephanie's lucky that the bullet just missed her kidney. She has also lost quite a lot of blood from the wound, an amount that should have been fatal. We are currently providing her with fluids to replace the amount she lost. She will need to stay here for another 2-3 days to recover and rest."
"Okay, thanks Dr. Martin." Matt says. Dr. Martin nods before leaving the room. We remain silent as the nurses finish transferring Stephanie from the gurney to the bed. One of them walks over.
"Hi, I'm Mikayla and my friend over their is Emily. We are the nurses in charge of Stephanie. I'll tell ya, she's a strong girl, a real fighter. She's currently in an induced coma but she should be awake in the next couple of hours. We will be checking on other patients as well. If you need us at any time for any reason, don't hesitate to push the red button on the left side of the bed, alright?"
"Thanks Mikayla." I say. She gives us another warm smile before both her and Emily leave. Nora and I stand up from the chairs we were sitting on and slowly walk over to Stephanie.
"Thanks Steph, for all your help. I hope you get better soon." I said with my eyes closed, praying. Nora does the same. Then, Matt comes over and says one final prayer. It turns out she woke up at 8 the next morning. In the following two days, we take turns staying with Steph. It's the third and final day of Steph's stay at the hospital and it's also the day of the trial for my restraining order. Matt signs Steph and out and we pile into his car, careful to not hit Stephanie's hip. Matt took us to his apartment where Nora volunteered to accompany Steph while we headed to the court once again. It was almost 7:00 when we returned to find Nora and Stephanie lying on the couch watching Pitch Perfect. I hear Matt laughing as I run over and show them a piece of paper.
As a result of the trial at the New York Civil court, held on the 21st day of October 2016, the restraining pertaining to Jasmine Hoffman against the defendants Rachel and Melanie Platten has been officially revoked.
