Chapter 22
When I woke up in the morning I freaked out momentarily, because it was almost 11:00 AM. I calmed down though, once I realized that it was not only Spring Break, but also a Saturday. Wow, I didn’t have school for nine more days.
I sat up in bed and rubbed the sleep out of my eyes, still tired. Laurane was sitting in a beanbag chair facing the TV, watching SpongeBob and eating cereal.
“Laurane, are you eight years old or what?” I sarcastically asked. Laurane just flipped me off and continued eating her Lucky Charms and watching her TV show.
Suppressing the urge to laugh at her, I grabbed my phone and checked to see if I had and texts. I did, from Aaron of course.
It said, ‘Morning babe! Hope you slept well. I want to see you again soon…love you. Xoxo’. It made me smile, and I hurried to keep that smile from Laurane, but it was too late.
I hadn’t noticed that Laurane had been studying me, but apparently she had been, because she asked, “Why are you smiling so big?”
I turned and looked at her and said, “I don’t know, I’m just in a good mood today. It’s Spring Break and everything.”
Laurane nodded, accepting my answer. “Yes, it is.” She agreed, letting my behavior go.
I sent Aaron back texts, full of love, asking if he wanted to hang out tonight. As usual, he did, and we made plans to meet at his room around nine.
“So, I have a date with Max tonight,” I said casually, being extra careful with my words. I didn’t want to let slip that I was actually going to be hanging out with Aaron.
“Oh that’s great!” Laurane exclaimed, “When are you meeting up with him?” Laurane was completely oblivious, thankfully.
I decided to stick to at least some of the truth, as much as I was able to, anyways. I said, “Around nine, and I’ll probably just stay the night with him.”
Laurane’s eyebrows raised with curiosity, but then she nodded, not fazed at all. This was one of the things that I really loved about not living with my parents. I could basically do whatever I wanted – as long as I didn’t get caught by the teachers or security or anything.
It was only 11, so I decided that Laurane and I should do something together today.
“Hey Laurane, do you want to go see Carrie with me today?” I asked, knowing that it was a movie that she had been dying to see.
“Oh my goodness, yes!” she exclaimed, “but how are we going to get off campus to go see it?”
