Hey everyone! This was an English assingment for me, but my friends said it was really good so I am now posting it on Wattpad. This is continuing from Chapter 20 (When Jonas sees the release of the twin).

Jonas ran to his room. He quickly packed his things into his bag to flee. Since Jonas heard about Gabe being released he knew he had to leave tonight. Jonas didn’t know why but he felt a strong pull towards Gabriel. He knew Father said no one could grow attached to Gabe but Jonas couldn’t follow that rule.

Jonas suddenly heard Mother walking towards Jonas’s room, breaking his thoughts. Jonas quickly got changed into his sleepwear and crawled into his bed. Mother opened Jonas’s door and peeked in.

“Jonas, are going to sleep this early?” Mother asked.

Jonas nodded his head, not wanting to speak to Mother. She just wanted her sleep and tomorrow she would have just that. Mother looked at Jonas. Jonas searched her dark eyes for any emotion, but there was none at all.

“Alright. I’ll have Father bring Gabriel up.” Mother stated. Jonas hoped that she would say any of the sweet things mothers said to their child in the memories, but Mother just closed the door.

Jonas heard Mother walk away so he got up and continued packing. It wasn’t long, but soon Jonas heard Father walking towards the room. Jonas quickly hid his backpack under his bed, and crawled underneath the covers for a second time.

Father opened the door, walked in, and put Gabriel in his crib. Jonas refused to look at Father anymore. He killed the twin and now he was going to kill Gabriel. Of course, Father didn’t know what he was doing, but that still didn’t change the fact that Father was murdering people.

Father was walking out of the room but turned around.

“Good night, Jonas,” Father said.

“Good night, Father,” Jonas replied, trying to keep his voice level.

Father left the room. Jonas waited till he couldn’t hear his steps anymore before he finished packing. Jonas could tell Gabriel was watching him, but he ignored it. When Jonas finished he turned around to face Gabriel.

“Please go to sleep, Gabe. We have a long journey tonight so I would prefer it if you’re asleep for some of it,” Jonas explained. Gabe nodded as if he understood.

Maybe he did… Jonas thought.

Jonas got into his bed and slowly drifted off to sleep.

Jonas quickly got off the bike, grabbed Gabriel, and walked into the Annex. The Annex was silent, not any sound except the quiet snores of The Giver. Jonas walked to The Giver, gently nudging him awake. The Giver woke up, looking frantically around the room until he caught sight of Jonas. The Giver sighed.

“Jonas, what are you doing here? And why do you have Gabriel with you?” The Giver questioned.
