If there was one question, any question at all, that you hate....what would it be? Mine is..'what do you want to be when you grow up?' There are a number of reasons why I don't like this question.
The first reason, is because asking that is like saying you can't be who you are now. Saying that what you are now isn't good enough. Like saying that you need to change yourself to get on with life.
The second reason would be because people who ask kids that question, is forcing them to plan out their who life in a second. What if the first thing you said you wanted to be when you grew up, was what you had to be? Like you didn't have a choice to be anything else. Asking them to decide their whole life. Because you career, affects everything in your life.
Parent: so sweety, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Little Girl: a princess!!
20 YEARS LATER
Woman(was little girl): I don't even like princesses anymore. Now look where I am.
There is a guy named Shane Koyczan, who I admire so much. I think he is a motivational speaker. Well, he once said, when he was 14 he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up. And he said.....Professional Wrestler. And he was told...'don't be stupid.'
If there is one thing I don't understand, it's this. How is that stupid? How is that not practical? How is it not practical when there are real Pro Wrestlers? Who I bet at lease half of them have been dreaming of being that since they were kids. I don't understand how it's being stupid if its truly what you want to do.
When I was in elementary school, I got bullied because of who I was, and what I wanted to be when I grew up. When I was asked that, I said....rockstar! I loved singing and I would just bust out singing randomly like an episode of glee. The other kids in my class laughed at me, and mocked me.
I still love singing and music. It will always be a part of me.
To this day.......I don't tell anyone what I want to do. Not unless your one of my closest friends, not even my family.
To this day........I still want to make music a career for me. But I have a backup too. A so called 'practical career'.
So ill leave you with this.
Be who you are. And be happy.
