A mermaid gets stuck in a net and is taken to an aquarium to live for the rest of her life. She first was excited, but then got bored. It was the aquariums policy to not have any harm done to the animals, so scientists and reporters just watched from a distance.
Then a boy comes in a field trip and sees the sadness and how she is trapped. He eventually gets to know her better by working at the aquarium. When she finally asks him to help her be free, he wearily agrees.
She eventually gets to the ocean and says goodbye to the boy, who's still in love with her. He gets sad and then she leaves, just to ask her mom if there was a way for him to become a merman.
