PERSEOUS’ P.O.V-
‘Sister, pass me the eye.’ The cool stone of the concrete walls made the room a bitter temperature, not to mention the feeling of it against my bare legs. Cunningly, I stretched my legs out in front of the other and sneaked towards them, still staying out of sight. They sat happily on the couch, doing nothing apparent.
I tugged the cap of invisibility that the Nymphs had given me earlier further down over my head and watched as my body disappeared from under me. This was my chance. I watched vigilantly as the first sister leaned over the tattered blue seat and to the second sister- but not before I could get to it.
‘Where is the lair of the Gorgons located?’ The aged ones stared blankly around the room like they were crazy, searching desperately to find the voice. I mean, they were blind without this eye.
‘I shall ask again, where do the Gorgons hide!’ I held the eye firmly in between the clenched fingers of my right fist, prepared to destroy it if I could not get the information I needed.
‘Why should we te-‘
Hermes sword rested lightly on her neck, a friendly reminder that it could slip at any time. The sisters breathing was ragged and uneasy as soon as the cool metal came in contact with her skin. She gulped making the sword bob out, and in again with her.
‘The island of Killdon, second cave.’
My winged shoes, again courtesy of the Nymphs, made for a very uneasy flight. The cave was now just in sight. All I had to do was steer myself onto the ledge there and- SMACK! I landed with a loud thump on the outside of the cave walls. I peeled myself awkwardly off the wall, somehow managing to leave an outline of my armor in the process. With any good fortune the Gorgon’s will not have heard that… mistake, and will still be going about their daily business. The wings of my transportation folded back into the red material, helping me to gradually regain my land legs.
After a few minutes of shuffling around the outskirts of the cave, I came to a big entry of which the whole front was an outline of darkness. There was absolutely no light emitting from the cave or outside, leaving me in complete obscurity to feel my way through the cave to Medusa. I pushed my hand to the wall in front of me, following its rough edges around to the inside of the cave. The walk to the center of the cave was a long one- no traps, only the occasional skeleton laying in a pile against the wall.
That was, until now.
I could hardly make it out in this dim light, but in front of me rested a huge boulder, obviously covering their lair- if the aged ones could be trusted. I tried for what seemed like hours, but it was no good. The boulder would not move. I squeezed my hand through the cracks, tapped on the rock, did everything that I could think of to try to break or move the boulder. It was no use.
I would disappoint Polydectes. He would not marry my mother. My mother would despise of me. I would be kicked out, banished from her presence.
In total frustration, I stabbed the sword of Hermes against the boulder. Sparks flew, lighting the dark cave for a split second, before dying out again. Nothing happened. I stood and watched desperately for a moment, willing with all that I had for the boulder to do something, before giving up. There was absolutely no hope.
I raised my shield this time, preparing to completely demolish the boulder, when something caught my eye- three beds filled with sleeping women with snakes for hair. I turned hurriedly and sprinted with everything I had towards the grotesque faces. With a swift raise of my arm and a distressing ‘squish’ noise, I rolled her head into my bag.
‘WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!’
It was against my wishes to be turned to stone, so with all due respect for Medusa’s sisters I fled from the lair and began my journey back to Polydectes.
POLYDECTES P.O.V-
‘Perceous,’ I sighed deceitfully, ‘what is this?’ He smiled brightly at me, bowing and raising a bag with what looked to be a spherical object towards me.
‘The head of Medusa, sir. Just like you asked, right before midnight.’ Oh how I loathed that boy- if it was not for his mother, I would run him through right now. Just wait. When he reveals that he does not have the head, I can banish him. This will be the perfect plan to get rid of the boy.
I rose dramatically from my chair and strolled towards the windowsill, touching its delicate framing.
‘Perceous, if you have failed me, there will be consequences.’
‘But sir, I have not! Please, turn and see what I have brought you!’
‘Perceous, you-‘ But turning around was a big mistake. I averted my eyes, but my feet told me it was too late. My sandals stuck like glue to the floor, my feet sticking with them. ‘PERCEOUS!’ Next, my legs turned that horrible grey colour I had been dreading. I could not move them or feel them- I knew what came next.
My waist became frozen in place much like my chest and arms as they followed suit. Soon, there would be absolutely nothing left of me. I would be entirely made of stone.
